Amal Clooney’s Bio (Age)

Born as Amal Alamuddin on the 3rd of February 1978 in Beirut, Lebanon, Amal and her family were forced to flee Lebanon when she turned two years old as a result of the Lebanese civil war. The middle-class family immigrated to Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire in South East England. Amal’s father Ramzi Alam Uddin, earned an MBA from the American University of Beirut in Beirut Lebanon and he owns COMET travel agency. Years after the war had ended, Amal’s father returned to his country Lebanon in the early 1990s.

Amal’s mother Bariaa Miknass works for the Pan-Arab newspaper al-Hayat as a foreign editor. Additionally, Amal’s mom is the founder of International Communication Experts, a public relations company that specializes in event promotion, celebrity guest bookings, and publicity photography. Amal has a sister named Tala. She also has two half-brothers named Samer and Ziad from her father’s first marriage.

In Buckinghamshire, Amal attended a girls’ grammar school Dr. Challoner’s High School, located in Little Chalfont. For her college degree, Amal attended St Hugh’s College, Oxford. An outstanding student, Amal received an Exhibition (a special type of scholarship). She was also a recipient of the Shrigley Award. Amal graduated in 2000 with a bachelor of arts degree in Jurisprudence which is Oxford’s equivalent of a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree.

In 2001 Amal then proceeded to study for a master of laws degree (LLM) at New York University School of Law. Again she excelled greatly, receiving the Jack J. Katz Memorial Award for excellence in entertainment law. Following her graduation in 2002, Amal was issued the license to practice law in the US.

During her time at NY School of Law, Amal worked for one semester in the office of Sonia Sotomayor, who was at the time a judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Post-LLM, Amal Clooney worked for New York-based International law firm Sullivan & Cromwell. She was part of the Criminal Defense and Investigations Group. During her three-year stint with the firm, Amal repped energy commodities and services company Enron, holding firm Arthur Andersen and more.

By 2004, Amal had completed a clerkship at the International Court of Justice, after which she was based in The Hague, Netherlands where she worked at the UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the Office of the Prosecutor.

Six years later, Amal in 2010, returned to the UK and earned the license to practice both in the UK and Wales. She began practicing in London as a member of the Doughty Street Chambers. Some of her clients have included; WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, Ukraine former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and Canadian Al Jazeera English journalist Mohamed Fahmy.

Religion

Amal Clooney’s religion isn’t quite clear to the public. Many have described her as a , which is her father’s religion. The Druze religion is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion that follows the Five Pillars of Islam. Some other Muslim groups consider them as infidels who have departed from the true Muslim faith. On the other hand, her mom hails from a family of Sunni Muslims. That said, Amal has never been vocal about her faith.
