She was born on 11th January 1972 in New York to her parents, Penny and Charles D. Peet. Her mom was a social worker and her dad, a lawyer by profession. Her parents would, unfortunately, divorce later on and Amanda was raised by her father. Her father is a Quaker and her mother is Jewish with regards to religion and beliefs. Amanda was raised in the Quaker tradition. Aside from being American, she is of English, Scottish and German descent.

At the age of just seven, Peet relocated to London but would later return after four years. Amanda got her formal education from Friends Seminary which was a Quaker School and after that, she went on to Columbia University to study History. She would go on to graduate from the university in 1994 but it was during her time at the institution that she began nursing the desire to go into acting. Those desires led to her taking acting lessons with Uta Hagen whilst at Columbia.

Her acting career took off in 1992 in an episode of The Larry Sanders Show. Her first proper movie was in the drama film Animal Room shoot in 1995.

After doing well with smaller roles, Amanda had her huge break in 1999 when she landed the role of Jacqueline Barrett in Jack & Jill. She starred in the fantasy romantic comedy Simply Irresistible as Chris and from then one the gigs kept coming.

Amand Peet has gone on to star in the following movies Isn’t She Great, Saving Silverman, Igby Goes Down, Something’s Gotta Give among others.
