Smart plays the role of Jules Harbor, the smart and sassy girlfriend of Van Der Beek’s character, Jonathan “Mox” Moxon, an academically and athletically gifted student who despite his popularity in school is dissatisfied with life. Varsity Blues drew mixed critical reception but was a huge box office success. It raked in $52 million from an estimated budget of $16 million.

2. Rat Race (2001)

Inspired by Stanley Kramer’s classic epic comedy film, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Rat Race is a comedy film that follows the adventure of six teams of people who are given a task of racing 563 miles; from Las Vegas, Nevada to Silver City, New Mexico, where a storage locker at a train station will have a duffel bag filled with $2 million. The first person to reach the locker gets to win and keep the money.

Rat Race features an ensemble cast that includes actors like , , , Jon Lovitz, Kathy Najimy, Breckin Meyer, , Wayne Knight, and Dave Thomas. Amy Smart plays the role of Tracy Faucet, a helicopter pilot and the love interest of no-nonsense attorney Nick Schaffer, Meyer’s character. While it received mixed reviews from critics, the film was a commercial success, grossing $85.5 million worldwide from a $48 million budget.

3. Road Trip (2000)

4. The Butterfly Effect (2004)

As the name of the film suggests in regards to the theory of how one small initial difference can lead to unforeseen but significant change over time, The Butterfly Effect is about a young adult who finds out he can travel back in time to inhabit his younger self. He decides to do this in order to change the present by changing his past behaviors, however, unforeseen and unintended consequences arise as a result of his action.

The Butterfly Effect, which also stars and has Smart playing the role of his childhood sweetheart, Kayleigh Miller, was a commercial success, making $96 million from a budget of $13 million. Critics, however, generally panned it, with a few calling out the film’s interpretation of the butterfly effect theory. On the award front, the film took home the Pegasus Audience Award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. It further received nominations for Best Science Fiction Film at the Saturn Awards and Choice Movie: Thriller in the Teen Choice Awards.

5. Starsky & Hutch (2004)

Adapted from a 1970s television series of the same name, Starsky & Hutch is a film that functions as a sort of a prequel to the TV series. It is about two streetwise undercover cops in the fictional Bay City, California who are able to catch multiple drug criminals with the help of an underworld boss known as Huggy Bear. and play the film’s titular characters while actors , , , and also appear in the film.

Amy Smart plays the role of a cheerleader named Holly Monk in the film that received largely positive reviews from critics. Her most notable moment in the film was a kiss that earned her the Best Kiss award at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards.

Listed as one of Time magazine’s All-Time 100 Best TV Shows, Felicity is a drama television series that revolves around the college experiences of the title character, Felicity Porter, a Palo Alto, California native that is a student halfway across the country at the University of New York.

Created by and Matt Reeves, the series, whose main characters include Keri Russell, , Amy Jo Johnson, Tangi Miller, and , was nominated for 38 awards during its run on TV. Amy Smart played the recurring role of Ruby, a former girlfriend of Foley’s character, Noel Crane.

7. Smith (2006)

Smith is a television drama series that was created by John Wells and aired on the CBS Network. The show follows a group of professional thieves who struggle to keep their work separate from the rest of their lives. Each episode of the show featured a heist or preparation for one by the thieves as other ongoing subplots examine each member’s double lives and their work to stay ahead of law enforcement officials.

The Single Moms Club received largely negative reviews from critics upon release, however, it turned a profit in the box office, making $16.3 million from an $8 million budget.

 

9. National Lampoon’s Barely Legal (2003)

National Lampoon’s Barely Legal, also known as After School Special, is a comedy film that follows three male high school students who are obsessed with sex but are unable to get it. Due to their dying want for women, money, and social status, they come up with a plan to make money by selling pornographic videos. They are able to do this by stealing credit card records to pose as adults to buy a web hosting service and by also claiming to be Hawaiians when casting local strippers for the film.

While the budget of the film in which Smart plays a popular character named Naomi is not revealed, the film only made $83,439 at the box office to rank amongst the worst of all Amy Smart movies.

10. The Last Time I Committed Suicide (1997)

Based on a 1950 letter written by author Neal Cassady to novelist and poet Jack Kerouac, The Last Time I Committed Suicide is a drama film that follows Cassady’s life before and after the suicide attempt by his longtime lover, Joan. It demonstrates Cassady’s ever-changing thoughts and active mind as the film goes back and forth between before and after the attempt.
