Anna Paquin is a New Zealand-Canadian-American actress of Irish, Dutch and French descent. Paquin has lived in many places, including Manitoba, Wellington, New-Zealand, and Los Angeles. She is well known for her lead role in The Piano for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the age of eleven, making her the second-youngest winner in the history of the Oscars.

Biography

Anna Paquin was born on 24 July 1982 in Manitoba, to an English teacher Mary Paquin (nee Brophy), a native of Wellington, New-Zealand and her husband Brian Paquin, a high school Physical Education teacher from Canada.

Paquin moved to New Zealand with her family, when she was four years old. She attended Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School in Lower Hutt until she was nine years old. As a child, Paquin’s interests were more sporting and dance related. Her hobbies included playing the viola, cello and piano, gymnastics, ballet, downhill skiing, and swimming.

After high school, she attended Hutt Intermediate School from 1994-95. She started secondary school in Wellington at Wellington Girl’s college but she completed it in Los Angeles at Winward College after moving there with her mother after her parents divorced. Anna graduated in June 2000 and moved on to Columbia University, an ivy league institution and one of the most difficult schools to get into in the states. She managed a one year stay before the call for the big screen had her drop out to further her acting career.

Acting Career

Paquin decided to audition for ‘The Piano’ because her older sister and friend were going too, but the Director Jane Campion was so impressed with Anna (who was nine years old at the time) that she was immediately chosen from among the 5000 other candidates.

The movie won a number of awards and after a while it became popular among many movie lovers. For her excellent prtrayal of the character of Flora, Paquin won an Oscar and became the second-youngest Oscar winner, after Tatum O’Neal. Paquin did not intend to continue with acting but she dabbled in a couple of movies and eventually after a year at Columbia University, she dived headfirst into the acting all-over again.

In 1996, she appeared in two films; Jane Eyre and Fly Away Home. She had a lead part in both films. Paquin went into the Xmen world in 2000. She starred as the mutant superheroine rogue in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Through 2006-2011, she starred in different films and TV shows. In 2008, she was cast as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series True Blood9, her first role in a TV series. After True Blood, she took a hiatus and came back into the business in 2014.

Anna Paquin and some other stars told the stories of how people died in a video released in June 2016, by the Human Rights Campaign in tribute to the victims of the 2016 Orlando gay nightclub shooting. Paquin starred in the Canadian crime drama Bellevue and was seen next in her husband’s directorial debut, The Parting Glass.

Anna and her husband have been dating since True Blood’s premiere in 2007 and got engaged in 2009. They have fraternal twins together; Charlie and Poppy. They live in Los Angeles.

Anna Paquin’s Children, Family Life

Anna Paquin has four children. Two step-kids from her husband’s previous relationship and two she had with her husband. The first stepchild is from Stephen’s first marriage; a son. The second is a daughter from his relationship with Lorien Haynes; a journalist. The twins Charlie and Poppy who were born several weeks early in September 2012. Although the parents have spoken about how difficult and tasking it is to raise twins, they would not give them up for the world.

In April 2010, Anna Paquin revealed that she was bisexual, and has constantly lent her voice to LGBT rights. She is opposed to the view that bisexuality is a choice.

She has two siblings who are both older than her; Andrew, who was born in 1977 is a director. Her other sibling Katya, born in 1980 is married to Russell Norman, an environmentalist, politician and former co-leader of the Green Party in New Zealand.
