Ms. Tautou was born Audrey Justine Tautou on the 9th of August 1976, in Beaumont, France. She was however raised in the Central France commune of Montlucon by her parents; mother Eveline, who worked as a teacher, and father Bernard Tautou who is a dental surgeon.
From a very young, Tautou was said to have had an interest in acting. Because of this, her parents enrolled her for acting classes at the private French drama school, The Cours Florent, where she learned how to speak English and Italian. At the age of 22, the aspiring actress participated in a Canal+ sponsored star search competition called Jeunes Premiers which translates to The Young Debuts in English. That same year, she was named the Best Young Actress at the 9th Beziers Festival of Young Actors. Her rising profile in the French movie acting industry went on to earn her a role in the film Venus Beauty Institute (1999), which won the national film award of France, The Cesar Award. Tautou herself won the Cabourg Film Festival Award for Female Revelation, the César Award for Most Promising Actress, the Lumières Award for Most Promising Actress, and the SACD Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie.
Following the glory of awards she received in France for her performance in Venus Beauty Institute, Audrey Tautou looked to take her career to the international scene. In 2001, she gained international fame for her performance as the lead actress in the Jean-Pierre Jeunet-directed romantic comedy, Amélie. The film was a huge success, commercially and critically, as both the film and its lead actress were up for various awards.
