Big Boi is an American born rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actor who is also popular as a member of the U.S hip hop duo Outkast which he formed alongside André 3000 as high school students in the early 1990s. As a duo, the group released six studio albums and Big Bio has three studio albums to his credit as a solo artist.

He dropped his first solo album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty in 2010, the second, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors in 2012 and the third Boomiverse in June 2017. He has also shown his acting skills in a couple of Hollywood Blockbuster movies which include ATL, IdlewildWho’s Your Caddy? and lots more.

Big Boi – Biography, Real Name, Age

The rapper was born in Savannah, Georgia on the 1st of February 1975 as Antwan André Patton. He spent the first half of his growing years in Savannah before moving to Atlanta with his aunt, Renne. While in Savannah, he attended Herschel V. Jenkins High School and after leaving the city, he went to Tri-Cities High School, a visual and performing arts Magnet school after he decided to pursue a career in music.

It was at Tri-Cities that he met André Lauren Benjamin popularly known as and together, they formed U.S Hip Hop group The Outkast which thrived and recorded huge success from the early 1990s to early 2000s. The duo released six studio albums and helped popularize Southern hip hop while experimenting with different genres of music including jazz, techno, funk, and psychedelia.

After releasing four albums as a group, Big Boi and André 3000 decided to release two solo albums as a double album under the duo name. He released Speakerboxxx and André 3000 released The Love Below and the two albums were packaged together and released in 2003 as Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. The duo has six studio albums to their credit, has sold over 25 million copies of them and won six Grammy Awards.

In 2005, Big Boi released a mixtape/compilation album, Got Purp? Vol 2 under Purple Ribbon Records with the Purple Ribbon All-Stars and in 2007, after the duo had released its sixth studio album, Big Boi announced that he would be working on his own full-fledged solo album and true to his words in 2010, he dropped his debut solo album titled Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. However, the album’s promotional single titled “Royal Flush”, had been released back in 2007, and featured André 3000 and Raekwon.

In a July 2010 interview, Big Boi revealed that he was working on a follow-up album titled Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. The album was eventually released in November 2012. The album’s first single was “Mama Told Me” and it featured Kelly Rowland. The album itself featured the likes of Phantogram, B.o.B, T.I. , , and Little Dragon.

Later that year, he revealed that he was ten songs into his next album which will be his third studio album but that plan was halted in January 2014 when he was featured on the Catch The Throne mixtape and dropped the song “Mother of Dragons”, which was later made available for free downloads on SoundCloud by HBO for the promotion of Season Four.  In that same month, Big Boi signed a record deal with Epic Records and in April 2017, he dropped his third studio album titled Boomiverse, alongside two singles, “Mic Jack” and  “Kill Jill” which featured , Jeezy, and .

In 2018, Big Bio signed a deal with L.A. Reid and Charles Goldstuck’s new record label Hitco Music and in January 2019 it was announced that the year’s  Halftime concert will be headlined by joined by Big Bio and

The rapper has also shown his acting skills in a couple of Hollywood Blockbuster movies which include ATL, IdlewildWho’s Your Caddy? and lots more. He was once a guest star on  Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘n Out Seasons 3 and 5 and guest starred in the episode titled “Wildlife” of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which aired in November 2008.

Family: Wife And Kids

Big Bio is the son of Tony Kearse and Rowena Patton. His father was a Marine Corps officer and his mom worked as a retail supervisor. He has three brothers – Jason, James, and Marcus.

He has been married to Sherlita Patton since 2002. Sherlita is a co-owner of PValentine – a clothing boutique in Atlanta. The store was once featured on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16, however, the boutique closed down in 2008.

Together the couple has two children – a daughter (Jordan) and a son (Cross). The rapper also has a son named Bamboo from a previous relationship. His wife, Sherlita, filed for a divorce in 2013 and wanted full custody of their kids along with financial support after she reportedly found s*xually explicit images of André 3000 on Big Boi’s cell phone. The latter refused a divorce and somehow, the couple managed to sort out their differences and reunited in June 2014.
