A lot is, therefore, expected of the upcoming Big Brother season 22 and here’s everything we know so far.
Synopsis of The Big Brother Show
Big Brother is an American reality TV show adapted from the Dutch TV series of the same name and created by John De Mol in 1997. The US version was launched on the 5th of July 2000 and has since run for 21 seasons.
The show follows a group of contestants who live together as “housemates” or house guests” for about three months in a house specially designed and built for the show and isolated from the rest of the world. Their daily activities and interactions are continuously monitored by live TV cameras and individually worn audio microphones for the duration of their stay. Each week, one housemate gets evicted from the house until one contestant is left and is eventually declared the winner of the competition going home with the prize money.
Although some formats may change from country to country, and series to series, many original elements of the show are retained for authenticity. Possibly, there might be new twists in Big Brother Season 22.
The Big Brother show has grown in popularity since inception, attracting millions of viewers each season and in each country, it is aired. However, it has not been able to escape its share of problems ranging from the negative public backlash to in-house controversies. The show has been accused of poor casting procedures, letting unruly housemate behavior slide, making rules too strict or not making rules strict enough. To a very large extent, the show’s content type has also been questioned. As though those weren’t enough, Big Brother had to grapple with allegations of copyright and trademark infringement.
In the midst of it all, the Big Brother reality TV series has somehow managed to keep its house together gaining more popularity with each passing year. It could be safe to say then that for now, an end in sight for the show isn’t anytime soon. Certainly, Big Brother Season 22 is on the way.
Since its first broadcast on September 16, 1999, in the Netherlands, the show has franchised into 54 countries, airing 448 seasons. In the US, it will be airing its 22nd season in 2020 by which time it would have run 746 episodes in the country.
Big Brother Season 22 Premiere Date and Host: What We Know So Far
On the 15th of May, 2019, CBS the show’s official network, renewed it for the twenty-second season. By September 5th, it was officially announced that the Big Brother Season 22 would premiere on June 23, 2020, to mark its 20th anniversary.
Not much has been revealed since the announcement was made, however, long-time host Julie Chen-Moonves has renewed her contract with the network and will be back as host for the show. This comes as cheering news for fans considering the element of vigor and excitement she brings to it.
The CBS silence on what fans should expect in Big Brother Season 22 does not imply inactivity considering that details for season 21 were made known on its very premiere day.
Kelly Kahl, CBS President has further revealed the network’s decision to deal with the issue of race, bullying and casting in the next season. If this happens eventually, fans will consider it a timely intervention. But regardless of all the goings-on behind the scene, viewers will welcome the assurance that the new season will be filled with the drama and intrigues Big Brother has come to be known for.
Big Brother Season 22 is produced for Fly on the Wall Entertainment in association with Endemol Shine North America, by the award-winning team of Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan.
