Born Blake Edmond Martinez on January 9, 1994, in Tucson, Arizona in the United States, there is not much information for media consumption with regards to his childhood. He holds an American nationality and belongs to the white ethnicity. While he was growing up, Martinez went to Canyon del Oro High School where he played football for the school team.

Playing under coach Dustin peace, Martinez played at different positions including running back, tight end, and linebacking. On finishing his high school career, Blake held the school record with 247 tackles as well as 1,100 offensive yards. He was named Defensive Player of the Year twice and a three-star inside linebacker by Rivals.com. Additionally, he was named to the PrepStar All-West Region Team.

Scouted by many top universities including Biose State, Oregon State, San Jose State, and Arizona State; Martinez finally accepted to take up his college career at Stanford University in August 2011. Having a favorable freshman season, Martinez featured in 14 games for the Stanford Cardinal. His wonderful input for the team earned him Stanford’s Greg Piers Service Team Award. The following year, he recorded a total of 11 tackles and got an Academic All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

While in his junior year, Martinez had his breakout season recording over ten tackles in 11 games. He finished the season having 102 tackles and was named to Phil Steele All-Pac-12 Third team. In addition to that, he also got an All-Pac-12 honorable mention. Improving on his existing record, Martinez ended his career with the Cardinal having 141 tackles and 6 passes breakup in 2015. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First team by the Associated Press, Phil Steele, and Conference.

Professional Career and Stats

Blake Martinez was selected by the Gren Bay Packers as the 131st overall pick in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. Afterward, he penned a four-year deal worth $2.72 million with the Packers. The contract includes a signing bonus of $383,393. Joining the team, Martinez quickly developed a good rapport with a fellow linebacker named Jake Ryan. Following the absence of Packer’s starting linebacker Sam Barrington, Blake quickly made the starting team for the Packers. He finished his rookie season having a total of one sack, one interception, four pass deflections, and 69 combined tackles in 13 games.

During the 2017 season, Martinez had an impressive season even though the Packers finished third in the NFC North league and didn’t make it to the playoffs. Blake featured in 16 games out of which he started all. He also had a record of eight pass deflections, one sack, one interception, and 144 combined tackles. His outstanding record in the 2017 season placed him as one of the NFL Tackling Co-leaders alongside Joe Schobert of Cleveland Browns and Preston Brown of Buffalo Bills. Martinez was also ranked 23rd among the qualifying linebackers.

Martinez comes from a middle-class family, his parents are Marc and Carrisa Martinez. He has a younger brother and a sister with whom he was raised. His whole family has been with him every step of the way since the inception of his football career. During the NFL pre-draft season in 2016, Blake disclosed that his mom had a feeling he would be playing for the Packers which eventually happened.

While he is enjoying a blossoming football career, Martinez is also successful in his love life. He has been in a relationship with a lady named Kristy and they have been together since high school.
