Brian Hoyer is a football quarterback who plays in the National Football League (NFL) for the New England Patriots which he joined in 2017. He began his NFL career in 2009 when he signed with the Patriots before moving to other teams including Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers before finally coming back where he began with the Patriots.

Brian Hoyer’s Biography and Age

The Patriots quarterback was born Brian Axel Hoyer on October 13, 1985, in the United States, Lakewood, Ohio to parents of German descent. His father and grandparents migrated to the United States when his father was still very young. At the time, his grandparents didn’t understand English, so it was on his father to fill all the bills and read/translate mails.

He was raised by his parents, Axel Hoyer and Julie Hoyer in Cleveland alongside his sister, Lauren, and brothers Brett and Matt Hoyer the latter who also played the sport and was a backup quarterback on the St. Ignatius state championship team in 2012. Since he was a child, Brian had always loved football and played the sport.

He went to Saint Ignatius High School where he played both football and tracks. Interestingly enough, he excelled very much in both. From there, he moved to Michigan State University where he was a two-time Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week. Although he was a good player and was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, Brian did not get to be picked at the 2009 NFL Draft. Nonetheless, he signed with the New England Patriots after the draft.

He made his debut in the game against the Tennessee Titans. For the next three seasons, he remained as the main backup for . He maintained his place even after Ryan Mallett was drafted to the team in 2011. In 2012, Brian Hoyer was released by the Patriots and was later signed by Pittsburgh Steelers as a backup for Charlie Batch after and Byron Leftwich were both out with injuries. However, he was soon released by the team less than a month after he was signed.

On December 10, the Arizona Cardinals claimed Hoyer and he remained there until he was released in May 2013. Three days after his release, the Cleveland Browns came for him with a two-year deal. He stayed until 2015 when he signed to play for the Houston Texans, and then in 2016, he was released by the team.

He spent 2016 with Chicago Bears and then he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in March 2017. By October, he was released again, and then in November, he was back where it all began, with the New England Patriots who gave him a 3-year deal to serve as Brady’s backup.

With close to a decade of playing in the NFL, Brian Hoyer can be said to have paid his dues in the league having played for more than five teams and considering that not many people expected him to last as long as he has.

With that said, he has a net worth that has been estimated at $17 million most of which he made from his earnings in the NFL. In 2017, he signed a 3-year deal with the Patriots which is valued at $4.41 million. Based on that, his salary is placed at $476,000 in 2017, $915,000 in 2018 and in 2019, he is expected to take home $2.85 million. He has $1.5 million guaranteed and a $200,000 roster bonus.

Wife and Children

Through his many rises and falls from high school to college and through all the teams that he has been to and trying to prove that he is good enough, one person that Hoyer has always had by his side is Lauren Hoyer, his wife.

The two first met when they were both in high school and Brian was still playing for St. Ignatius. Years later, the two got married in 2010 and their union has been blessed with two sons, Garrett and Cameron.

Brian Hoyer’s wife who was born Lauren Scrivens, attended a Catholic all-girls school in a Cleveland suburb, Magnificat High School while her husband attended an all-boys Jesuit school St. Ignatius which was in the same area.

Hoyer’s wife is not the only person bearing the name Lauren Hoyer in the family as that is also the name of his sister.
