Brooke Elliott is an American actress and singer who rose to stardom after her brilliant portrayal of the character of Jane Bingum in the television series Drop Dead Diva. Having struggled to make it in the American entertainment industry, she worked as a temp and a waitress at the early phase of her career, including working at a 1950s-themed restaurant where she had to dance on the tables every hour to make ends meet. Brooke Elliott – Biography

Brooke Elliott was born on the 16th of November 16, 1974, in Fridley, Minnesota to Robert Elliott, a city manager, and Kathleen Elliott. Due to the demands of her father’s job as a city manager, the family moved on several occasions during her childhood days. They first moved to Blaine, Minnesota, and then out of state to Missouri, Oklahoma, and Illinois. The family later settled in Riverview, Michigan when she was a junior in high school.

She studied and graduated from Gabriel Richard Catholic High School, Michigan. While studying there she appeared in several high school productions including in Joseph the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Richard III. She later went to further her studies at the Western Michigan University where she acquired her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts for Musical Theatre Performance in 1998.

After she had worked as a waitress in a themed restaurant and was required to dance atop of tables, she gained employment as a cast member in a theatre firm named Babes with Blades when she moved to Chicago in 1999. She worked for a total of 10 weeks with the theatre company where her role comprised of acting out scenes from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Heathers, and The Miracle.

Her first major role as a professional theatre actress came when she joined the touring cast of Beauty and the Beast. She was also featured alongside in the US tour of the Broadway musical – Wicked.

Her singing talent also earned her a role on the Broadway musical Taboo which was composed by the renowned singer, and produced by . Brooke Elliott was then cast in another Broadway musical The Pirate Queen which was scripted by the Frenchmen duo of Schonberg and Boublil; here, she played the character of Majella.

She made her film debut in the movie – What Women Want in 2000, but had her television debut in 2005 when she starred in one of the episodes of Law & Order: Trial by Jury.

The actress later starred in another very popular television series Drop Dead Diva where she played Jane Bingum who was the main character of the TV series.
