Graduating from Hollywood High School in 1951, she joined the University of California LA for a journalism course. However, she had a change of mind after her freshman year as she made a switch to Theatre Arts and English.

The desire to participate in a playwright program demanded that she join an acting workshop which she reluctantly enlisted in. On the long run, Carol was so smitten by the performing arts that she made the decision to pursue acting as a career.
