Azpilicueta was chosen to represent Spain at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in June 2014. As the country was eliminated at the group stage, he was the starting right-back in the first two games, against the Netherlands and Chile. Azpilicueta was also included in the 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 24-man team for the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying tournament.
