The Wildcats power forward-center Channing Frye who received the prestigious Sapphire Award of the University of Arizona has played professional basketball for six notable teams since he was drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2005. He has played with teams like; Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers. Frye who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers by the Cavaliers in February 2018 returned to the team on the 19th of July 2018.

His first stint with the Cavaliers afforded him the opportunity to win an NBA Championship in 2016. Other notable awards the baller has under his belt include; McDonald’s All-American which he won in 2001, he bagged the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team in 2002 and is a two-time First-Team All-Pac-10 in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Channing Frye’s Biography

The popular basketball player was born to Karen Mulzac-Frye and Thomas Fray in White Plains Stations New York on 17th May 1983. He attended St Mary’s High School Phoenix where he got the rating of No 13 center in the nation by Fast Break Recruiting Services and no 98 recruit in the country by Hoop Scoop. After high school graduation, the rising star proceeded to the University of Arizona where he featured as a major contributor to the Wildcats Basketball Team from 2001 to 2005. Channing was drafted in the 2005 NBA draft as the eight overall by the New York Knicks.

Beyond basketball, the celebrated baller has touched a lot of lives through his humanitarian activities. He founded The Channing Frye Foundation in 2007. The foundation whose sole aim is to channel the youth in a healthy and positive direction was succeeded in 2010 by a second foundation known as The Frye family Foundation which he established in collaboration with his wife. The focus of The Frye Family Foundation was to give back to communities like; Arizona, Portland, and Oregon. Channing also took over the sponsorship of a charity kickball tournament in Portland. His personal charisma and contribution to better off the lives of the less privileged have made him so popular that he was named after a dish in his favorite restaurant in Portland.

Contracts

The talented basketballer has signed quite a few contracts since his NBA draft in 2005. His first contract was signed with his debut team the New York Knicks in 2005. Subsequently, he entered into contracts with the Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Notable among them is the $3.8 million contract with an option for the second year which he signed with the Phoenix Suns on the 14th of July 2009. Channing did not take up the contract; instead, he signed a new five year-$30 million contract with the same team. Before the expiration of his contract with the Suns, Channing opted out when the Orlando Magic Basketball team lured him over with an enticing four-year contract worth $32 million.

The talented basketball player’s parents Karen Mulzac-Frye and Thomas Frye are late. Frye’s mother died of cancer, but the cause of his father’s death is not publicly known. The NBA player has a cousin in the prestigious league named . Channing’s maternal grandfather John Mulzac was an active member of Tuskegee Airmen.

 

Delving into the relationship status of the famous basketball player; Frye is married to Lauren Lisoski. The NBA player met his wife on his first day in Portland just before the NBA season of 2007-2008. The couple who were introduced by mutual friends got on like a house on fire and barely two years after their first meeting, they tied the nuptial cord precisely on the 14th of August 2009. Their wedding took place at the Portland Garden Vineyards and was a memorable one. Words in the street had it that the couple’s wedding featured an untraditional wedding cake which was referred to as a cupcake tree. As at the time of their wedding, Channing was already playing for another team the Phoenix Suns and the couple had to relocate.

Frye’s wife, Lauren is originally from the little town of Tualatin in Oregon. She attended Tualatin High School and had her college education at the University of Oregon.

They welcomed their first child, a boy named Hendrix on the 4th of October 2010. Their daughter, Margaux was born with a vision impairment as a result of a cataract. The little girl was only able to see shadows and bright lights with only a 20 percent chance of regaining full vision. After having undergone five surgeries, she regained her vision before her second birthday.
