The supermodel was born on September 25, 1947, in Breckenridge, Minnesota to Theodore and Phyllis Tiegs. His father was a former auto-assembly lineman who later became a funeral director. Her family moved to California in 1952 and she continues her education at Alhambra High School. While there, she posed for a swimsuit ad which appeared in Seventeen magazine. This was how her modeling career began. She went off to California State University to study English but dropped out to pursue a career in modeling full time.

Her big break came when the editors at Glamour came upon her swimsuit and invited her for a shoot with the famous photographer Ali MacGraw. She ended up on the cover and subsequently featured on Elle, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar covers. Tiegs became the first model to grace the Sports Illustrated cover twice, one of which was the iconic fishnet swimsuit picture. She appeared four times on the cover of People and three times on TIME.

Cheryl was inducted into the Sports Illustrated Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2001, she posed in a bikini on the cover of More, which earned her praise and acclaim from all corners for breaking barriers in terms of beauty, fashion, and fitness despite her age.
