Ask anyone who knew Young Pappy and they would tell you that his life was a perfectly turbulent cocktail of drugs, gang violence, troubled family life, drill rap, and everything else affiliated to that lifestyle. The rapper was a bonafide member of the Cutthroat Gangsters, a faction group of the Gangster Disciples Gang. Through his life and his music, he never missed an opportunity to hate on rival gangs.

For a while, it seemed that the Chicago native was invincible but his luck would eventually run out. Pappy was signed to Law Jackson’s TFG Entertainment and released a lot of music under the label. He is known for songs like ‘Faneto Freestyle’, ‘Killa’, ‘Shooters’, and ‘Savages’.

Young Pappy’s Bio

Young Pappy was born Shaquon Thomas in Chicago, Illinois, on May 9, 1995. He spent his early life in Chicago’s Near North Side area. Nothing is known about his pre-teenage life. However, in his teenage years, it seemed like Shaquon was always getting into trouble for one thing or the other. He has numerous crime stints and was incarcerated a few times.

He started smoking weed as early as in eighth grade and as a result of this, he was suspended from school until his mother intervened. This did not slow down the rapper though. He continued to build his criminal profile when he joined the Gangster Disciples Gang. Young Pappy’s continuous crimes eventually saw him enter the juvenile justice system. At one point, he had 11 misdemeanor charges and a felony charge leveled against him. One of these charges was for illegal gun possession and saw him spend a year in prison.

Even with all that was going wrong in his life, the rapper found the time to drop music on a consistent basis. He released many albums including Chiraq, 2 Cups: Part 1, 2 Cups: Part 2, 2 Cups: Part 3, Swipey, Jesus, and God. He also released a lot of music videos. The last song he released was for his track “Shooters”. Young Pappy’s songs were more than just entertainment. For the most part, he wrote lyrics that promoted drugs, guns, violence and also hit out at rival gangs of Gangster Disciples. They helped to stoke the fire between rival gangs in an around the Chicago area, especially their feud with a rival gang known as the Conservative Vice Lords.

Family and Siblings

Young Pappy was born to his mother, Ingrid Thomas, and his father whose identity remains unknown. His parents had a turbulent relationship, eventually splitting up. The chaos in the home was later revealed to be a contributor to the way Pappy’s life headed. Although he still maintained a relationship with both parents, it didn’t seem to help his situation, although his mother always seemed to be on his side no matter what he did. She always believed that he was misunderstood by the rest of the world.

Through his parents, Shaquon Thomas had two brothers. He and his brothers made rap music their trade. Their birth names are Ryan Thomas and Tayvion Thomas. For their music, Ryan is known as BuDouble, and Tayvion goes by TaySav. BuDouble is known for songs like “I Ain’t Going”, and “Uptown Shit”, while TaySav’s more popular songs include “Frenemies”, “Lake Show”, and “Letter to Pappy”.

Is Young Pappy Dead? How Did He Die?

Young Pappy’s life came to an end in the early morning hours of May 29, 2015. He was just 20 at the time of his death. He was gunned down with two shots to the back while he was walking down an Uptown Street, in North Kenmore Avenue.

This wasn’t the first time an attempt had been made on the rapper’s life though. Two previous attempts had been made in the past year before his death. He escaped each time but the bullets took the lives instead of two unsuspecting victims on both occasions.

The first attempt happened in front of a McDonald’s place in February 2014. A masked gunman had shot at and hit Young Pappy. Sadly, his sporadic shooting caught three other people. One of them, a 17-year-old boy named Markeyo Carr drew the short straw; a bullet had hit him in the back of the head, taking his life on the spot. Young Pappy only sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.

The second attempt on his life occurred on July 13, 2014, around Devon Avenue where his father lived. A gang member of The Conservative Vice Lord’s rival gang had released an avalanche of bullets at Young Pappy while chasing him down. Pappy would escape but the bullets took the life of Wil Lewis. Wil was a 28-year-old photographer who had just relocated to the neighborhood with his wife, Maria.
