Chris Hayes is not a face that is unknown especially among those constantly following MSNBC. He is an American journalist and political commentator who has become very popular for his show, All In with Chris Hayes on the TV channel. Before starting his current show, he has hosted the Up with Chris Hayes also on MSNBC. Here is all to know about him.

Chris Hayes Biography and Age

The TV host, Chris Hayes is of Italian and Irish descent and was born as Christopher Loffredo Hayes. He was born on February 28, 1979, in The Bronx, New York. He was also raised in New York with his two other brothers by their parents, Roger and Geri Hayes. For his education, Hayes attended the Hunter College High School in New York, and from there he proceeded to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from the Brown University.

Soon after he was through with his education, Chris began with the Chicago Reader newspaper where he reported political stories. From there, he moved to the In These Times monthly magazine with which he spent the next 4 years. He would continue writing until 2010 when he moved to MSNBC and started guest hosting some shows.

Once a Bernard Schwartz and Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics fellow, Chris Hayes began hosting his own shows with MSNBC in 2011 known as Up with Chris Hayes. 2013, he left the show for All In with Chris Hayes while Ed Schultz who was hosting the show before then moved to the weekends.

The move was significant in many ways as apart from the fact that he had proven himself to take greater responsibilities, it also made him the youngest person to handle a prime-time show as far as major cable news channels were concerned.

Hayes has published many articles on various major magazines and newspapers in the country even as he is still an editor with The Nation magazine. Apart from his work as a TV show host, Hayes is also a writer. He published his first work, Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy in 2002 and the second, A Colony in a Nation in 2017. Even though there have not been many reviews for his second work, the first was said to be compelling and provocative at the same time by a number of reviewers.

Family, Gay, Wife (Kate A. Shaw)

Chris came from a simple family with his parents and two brothers, Luke Hayes who worked for the Barack Obama campaign teams in 2008 and 2018, and Lynn Hayes.

If you have ever wondered whether or not Chris Hayes is gay, he is not. Like every other social commentator, he has given out his voice in the past about his thoughts on same-sex marriage which he supports entirely and even joins the pride campaigns.

That pointed out, he is straight and is even a married man. He has been married since 2007 to Kate A. Shaw whom he met in his college days at the Brown University. Interestingly enough, before meeting Shaw, Hayes had never been in any kind of romantic relationship nor has he ever been in any since he has been with her.

Just like her husband, Kate’s father, Andy Shaw also worked in the media as a newsman in Chicago where he is very famous.

Not much is known about her personal life but we know Kate A. Shaw now works with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law as an Associate Professor as well as a Co-Director of the Floersheimer Center for Constitutional Democracy. She also specializes in constitutional law, legislation, administrative law, the Supreme Court, among other things that also include gender and sexual orientation and the law.

Having spent more than 10 years as man and wife, the union between the two has been blessed with three children. Ryan Elizabeth Shaw-Hayes, who is their first daughter was born in November 2011, while their second child, David Emanuel Shaw-Hayes, was born in 2014. The youngest of their children, Anya Shaw-Hayes was born in 2018.

Height and Weight

With hardly any doubt, Chris is a man with good height and body build. While he may not have that athletic build, he still does well for himself. In numbers, he stands at a height of 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m). For his body weight, that has not been made public but as stated, he is in a good shape.
