Biography

Born on the 10th of April, 1982, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Chyler Leigh Potts is an American actress, singer and model. Though born in North Carolina, she grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and attended Trantwood Elementary School. Her parents, Yvonne Norton and Robert Potts, owned a weight loss business together but it went bankrupt and the couple later got separated in 1994. Chyler had to move to Miami with her mother and brother, Christopher Khayman Lee. Eventually, her mother remarried.

In eighth grade, the young actress began modelling and acting in local television commercials. In 1999, Chyler and her mother moved to Los Angeles in order to develop her acting career. Around this time, she wrote and passed the California High School Proficiency Exam.

In the same year, she met Nathan West and they started dating. Not long after, she moved in with Nathan and because they both had difficult childhoods, they resorted to abuse of drugs such as cocaine which became a full-blown addiction. However, after attending a church service, upon the invitation of a friend, the two were able to break free from their addiction and they have remained clean and sober till this day.

Career

Having started acting at a young age, she made her film debut in 1997 with the film Kickboxing Academy. She went on to feature in local TV shows and equally tried out modelling. In 2001, she got the lead role in the successful comedy film Not Another Teen Movie. The following year, she was ranked #65 on Maxim Hot 100 Women of 2002 and featured in the TV series Girls Club and That 80’s Show.

Chyler Leigh eventually became a series regular in the legal drama, The Practice but could not continue due to budget cuts. She then went on to feature in ABC‘s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. At first, she made slight appearances in the third season but became a regular by the fourth season, playing the part of the main character’s half-sister.

In October 2015, she nabbed the lead role in the CBS/CW DC television show Supergirl, playing Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, a scientist and government agent. Some of her other films include Brake, The 19th Wife and Taxi Brooklyn.

The Supergirl star is married to American actor, singer and musician, Nathan Luke West. Nathan proposed to Chyler on the set of Not Another Teen Movie in 2001 and the two tied the knot in 2002 in Alaska.

Nathan was born on the 29th of September, 1978 in Anchorage, Alaska, where he also grew up. He attended and graduated from Service High School, where he played Hockey. As an actor, he worked with his wife on the TV series 7th Heaven, Safe Harbor and the thriller, Brake. He also featured in Disney’s Miracle and the historical romantic drama, Alleged.

The couple is blessed with three children. When starting out, the pair made a pact that whoever guessed the sex of the child right would be the one to name the child.
