Connie Booth Biography

She was born Constance Booth on January 31, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, US. Always inclined to the artistic side of life, Booth started out as an understudy in Broadway in New York where her family moved after her birth. While searching for a role she also worked as a waitress and did other few odd jobs to support her hustle.

Connie Booth soon got a role in the British series Monty Python’s Flying Circus in which she starred alongside her then-husband John Cleese whom she met while still on the search for opportunities. They had both met in New York where Cleese was working at the time before they journeyed together into the world of movies. She went on to feature in many more films by the Monty Python comedy group including; How to Irritate People, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and many others.

Career Achievements

Booth was quite notable for Fawlty Towers which she co-wrote with her husband Cleese. Not only did she write the series, but she also starred in it as a waitress which was remarkable. The interesting sitcom earned her lots of recognition and accolades; Connie bagged the number one spot in the rankings by the British Film Insitute in the year 2000.

With her name already on the lips of many, she went on to star in other notable movies and series, further projecting her image to the world. The 80s had her very busy with various roles in movies like The Deadly Game, The Hounds of Baskerville, Past Caring, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, and many others. The 90s was not any different.

Although she threw in the towel on her acting career in the 90s, she was also busy with a few other productions. Connie Booth made an appearance in the sci-fi series, The Tomorrow People in 1994 and also featured in The Buccaneers. Her last movie is recorded as Neon the Pig Farmer, a comedy film in which she starred as Yvonne Chadwick.

Booth proved to the world that she is not one to stay idle even for a second, for any reason. After leaving the movie industry in 1995, she took up another career as a psychotherapist. She studied at the London University for five years after which she registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and began work as a psychotherapist.

Family Life

Although their names are not known, Connie Booth was born into a family of elites. Her father was a Wall Street stockbroker and her mother was an actress. She must have gotten her acting traits from her actress mother. As mentioned earlier, Connie’s parents moved to New York immediately after her birth and that was where she nurtured her career before moving to Britain.

 

Having married her husband and colleague in 1968, they welcomed a daughter, three years later in 1971. However, in 1978 the couple were divorced though they remained acquaintances. Although they were divorced, the two worked together to write the second season of Fawlty Towers. In the year 2000, Connie Booth got married again to author and critic John Lahr.
