American-born golfer Cristie Kerr started playing golf competitively at the age of 9 on her high school Boys golf team. She made her way swiftly to the top of the rankings in her home state of Florida and her amateur career is one of the most decorated in the history of the sport. Since turning professional in 1996, Kerr has recorded 20 wins in the LPGA Tour coupled with 2 major titles. In 2010, Kerr had 3 separate stints as world No 1 on the Women’s World Golf Rankings.

Biography and Age

Cristie Kerr was born on October 12, 1977, in Miami, Florida to Linda and Michale Kerr. Her parents are currently divorced and her father is an army veteran. She had her high school education at Miami Sunset High School in West Kendall, Florida.

At the age of 7, Kerr learned how to handle a golf club and by the following year, she started playing. Through steady hard work, Kerr made her way out of obscurity as she won several amateur tournaments. She was crowned champion at the 1994 Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship as well as the 1995 Women’s Western Amateur. She claimed her first victory at a professional tournament in 1995 Futures Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA. She later ended that year as the American Junior Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. In 1996, she participated in the Curtis Cup Match and also received Low-Amateur honors in the U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship.

Upon graduation from high school in 1996, Cristie Kerr played in both the Futures Tour as well as the Players West Tour. After launching her LPGA career in 1997, Kerr was able to break into the top 50 in 1999. 3 years later, she won her first LPGA Tour event at the 2002 Longs Drugs Challenge held in California. By 2004, she was one of the top players in the LPGA tour having won 3 tournaments with a number 5 ranking on the money list. In 2005, she recorded 2 more tournament victories and advanced to 3rd place on the money list. She was a part of the United States team at the Solheim Cup tournament in 2002, 2003 as well as 2005.

In 2006, Cristie Kerr was the only American player to record multiple victories on the LPGA tour. The following year, she claimed her first major championship title at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open. In 2010, Kerr won the LPGA Championship by an unprecedented 12-stroke difference above runner-up Song-Hee Kim. As a result, she quickly shot to the top of the Women’s World Golf Rankings becoming the first American to top the chart. In 2011, Cristie Kerr received the Sportsperson of the Year Award. In 2015, she won the CME Group Tour Championship by a one-stroke margin.

In her early 20s, Kerr weighed up to 79 kg (175 lbs), however, this caused her certain health challenges including muscle cramps. Both of Cristie Kerr’s parents have been diagnosed with diabetes and her mother suffered a cardiac arrest when she was in the ninth grade. When her weight hit 175 pounds in 1999, Kerr decided it was time to put her weight in check. Through exercise and strict adherence to a healthy diet, Kerr was able to lose up to 50 lbs (23 kg) which brought her weight down to 125 pounds (57 kg).
