Cynthia Watros Bio

The actress was born on September 2nd 1968 as Cynthia Michele Watros in the United States, Lake Orion, Michigan. Growing up was quite hard for her on one side – because her parents were not rich, and on another side, they suffered a divorce when she was only 7.

Brought up alongside a brother in a trailer park in Lake Orion, she was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood disease, immune thrombocytopenia when she was a teenager. For close to 3 years of her life, she battled the disease which she came out of after undergoing a splenectomy and chemotherapy for up to two years.

For her education, the actress went to Macomb Community College in Macomb County and from there, she moved to the Boston University School for the Arts where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

As regards her acting career, she made her screen debut in 1994 when she appeared in the aforementioned New York Undercover. Before that, she was, along with Debra Messing, a part of the 1993-94 off-Broadway production of Four Dogs and a Bone of John Patrick Shanley. The two were the opening-night understudies for the production.

In the same year that she made her onscreen debut, she also got the role of Annie Dutton in Guiding Light which ran from 1994 to 1998. In 1997, she had a role in another TV show, Spin City, appearing in just an episode. 1998 saw her take parts in Another World and Profiler and then from 2000 to 2002, she got to play the major role of Erin Fitzpatrick in Titus.

Before she got her role in Lost in 2005, she appeared in The Drew Carey Show from 2002 to 2004. Subsequently, she had roles in many other TV shows including House M.D. (2010), Video Game High School (2013), and Deadly Exchange (2017). Apart from the TV, she has also appeared in a number of films including Cafe Society (1995), Calvin Marshall (2009), and Blood and Electrick Children (2012).

With a career that has been running for more than 20 years, Cynthia Watros has been complemented with a number of awards including the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1998 for Guiding Light and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2006 for Lost. She has also got several nominations such as Soap Opera Digest Awards and Gold Derby Awards.

Family: Parents, Husband, Children

As stated already, Cynthia Watros was brought up by her parents, Nancy Watros and Bruce Watros before their marriage ended when she was 7. While Nancy was a legal secretary, Bruce was an electrical engineer.

The actress has an elder brother, Steven Watros who, just like their father, is an electrical engineer.

In 1996, just two years after she began her acting career, the Lost star got married to Curtis Gilliland. Although it is not known how they met, some sources claim that they dated for a year, from 1995 to 1996, before they decided to tie the knot. From then onwards, the two have remained very close.

Inasmuch as there is not much that is known about Curtis Gilliland who has chosen to more or less remain away from the public, it is known that he is a restaurateur. Although there are other sources that suggest he is also an author, there are no records to back it up..

Their union which has now lasted for over twenty years is blessed with two children, Sadie Anna Marie, and Emma Rose Marie. Both girls were born on 14th July 2001.
