DeMar DeRozan is an extraordinary sportsman with great athletic prowess. He is best described as an athlete with great speed, a very good vertical jump and explosiveness. His strength resides in his size, capability of being a leader, his powerful dunks and superb finishing.

Since he was selected by the Raptors in the 2009 draft, he has remained with the NBA team and has close to nine years of experience in the game since he made his NBA debut on October 28, 2009. He plays as a shooting guard for the Toronto Raptors and wears the number 10 jersey.

Biography

DeMar DeRozan is a professional NBA player born as DeMar Darnell DeRozan on August 7, 1989, in Compton, California and an American by nationality. DeMar’s parents are Frank and Diane DeRozan. He has an elder brother named Jermaine DeRozan, who is a basketball trainer.

Before DeRozan went pro, he played basketball at high school and college levels. He was so good at both levels that he earned himself numerous accolades, for example in 2006 and 2007, he was named in the consecutive All-Moore league first team. In 2007, he was named in the Los Angeles Times first team. In 2008, DeMar was listed in the All-State team and has received many more honours.

During his early career life, he played for Compton High School basketball team. He led his high school team to back-to-back Moore league championships. In the process, he won the Moore league MVP.

His effective play for his high school team made him a wanted player by several college basketball teams. He received scholarships to play for Arizona State, North Carolina and USC but ultimately opted to play for University of Southern California basketball team The Trojans. His first game for the team was remarkable, scoring team-high of 21 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in what was a friendly match against Azusa Pacific, the game ended in favour of the Trojans, 85-64.

At the end of a successful 2008/2009 season with the Trojans, DeMar made the decision to call it quits with college and college basketball, after just a year. He made the decision to quit college so he could go pro and also fund his mother’s medical bill, as she was sick at that time.

His ambition to go pro got a major boost after he was drafted by Toronto Raptors as the ninth pick in the first round, and ninth in the overall 2009 draft.

His debut NBA game for the Raptors came on October 28, 2009, against a inspired Cleveland Cavaliers. The Raptors finished the game as winners, winning by a 10 points margin in the game that produced 192 points between both teams. Of the 101 points which the Raptors finished with, DeRozan scored 8 points and also got 5 rebounds.

On February 16, 2014, DeRozan featured for the first time in an All-Star game, earning his spot as a reserve for the Eastern Conference All-Star team. In the game, he played for a quarter of an hour, scoring 8 points, 3 rebounds, and finishing with 2 assists.

In the same year when he made his first appearance in the All-Star game, he was called up amongst other players to represent Team USA at the 2014 FIBA World Championship in Spain. The team won a gold medal at the world championship.

In 2016, he was listed as a member of Team USA to participate at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The team won a gold medal at the summer event. He continued to be successful in his career with the Raptors until July 18, 2018, when he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for

  2. Getting 4 blocks against Sacramento Kings on December 5, 2012.
  3. His career steals in a single match stands at 6, against Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors on October 29, 2014, and October 25, 2017, respectively.
  4. His career highest assist in a single match is 12 and he got it on February 1, 2014, against Portland Trail Blazers.
  5. His highest rebounds in a single match are 13, against both Boston Celtics on January 10, 2017, and Washington Wizards on March 3, 2017.

Since his debut in the NBA, DeMar DeRozan has stuck to playing for only Toronto Raptors and in the process, he has achieved quite a lot for himself, being named to the NBA All-Star team on four occasions, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. He has been named as the NBA Eastern Conference player of the month in three occasions – April 2015, January 2016 and January 2018. He was also named as an Eastern Conference player of the week on various occasions, along with other recognitions.

Wife (Kiara Morrison) Girlfriend

DeMar DeRozan isn’t married yet but he is engaged to Kiara Morrison who is half Filipino, half American. She was born on January 18, 1988. Her father, Keith Morrison used to be a basketball player who played for Alaska Milkmen (now known as Alaska Aces) in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Kiara is a huge basketball fan, she is seen most times cheering her man in the stands when he is in the court doing what he does best. The couple first met at USC when DeMar played college basketball for the Trojans.

Daughters

The ball player has two daughters with his girlfriend Kiara Morrison. Their first child, Diar was born in 2013, and their second child, Mari was born in 2016, shortly after DeRozan won gold with Team USA at the Summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
