Dennis Keith Rodman was born on May 31, 1961, in Trenton, New Jersey. His father Philander Rodman served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. Dennis Rodman attended South Oak Cliff High School located in the Oak Cliff neighbourhood of Dallas, Texas. Upon graduation from high school, he had a brief stint at Cooke County College in Gainesville, Texas before moving to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. During the 1986 NBA draft, Dennis Rodman was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 2nd round as the 27th overall pick. His first 2 seasons were inconsistent, however, the Pistons eventually won the NBA Finals in 1989. The following season, Rodman put up a superb performance, averaging 8.8 points and 9.7 rebounds in 43 games and was honoured with the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. The Pistons dominated throughout the season as they won the 1990 NBA Finals as well as the 1990 NBA Playoffs. In the 1990-91 season, Rodman averaged 8.2 points and 12.5 rebounds in 77 games which earned him a 2nd consecutive NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. His rebounding abilities were at an all-time high in the 1991-92 season as he averaged 18.7 rebounds per game and was named in the All-NBA Team for the first time. After 2 more seasons with the Detroit Pistons, Rodman was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in October 1993.

After the 1994-95 season, he was traded by the Spurs to the Chicago Bulls. Rodman, alongside , was part of the iconic Bulls’ team which won 72 out of 82 in the 1995-96 season.
