Devin McCourty was born on August 13, 1987, in Nyack, New York, and was raised alongside his twin brother, Jason McCourty, by his mother Phyllis Harrell as their father Calvin McCourty, passed away while they were three years old.

With the help and support of their hard-working mother, Devin and his brother went to St. Joseph’s High School in Montvale which happens to be one of the best all boy-school in New Jersey. There, Devin took interest and developed his skill as an athlete. At the high school, he played cornerback and free safety and was an all-league selection in his final two seasons.

He equally played basketball as a point guard. Thus, he was named to the all-league selection and was among the few rated as a two-star recruit by

As senior in the high school, he scored 50 tackles, three interceptions and three blocked kicks on special teams. Hence, he was the first team All-Big East in 2009 at Rutgers before being selected 27th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

During his first year in college, Devin was redshirted, and he appeared in 13 games, making a total of 38 tackles and two interceptions. He also levelled 25.4 yards on kickoff returns and had a 98-yard kickoff return, third-longest in school history. With a career-high of 80 tackles and 10 pass deflections, he was named to All-Big East first team.

Devin McCourty began his professional NFL career in 2010 with New England Patriots after he signed a five-year contract with the team on July 28, 2010. The 2010 NFL Draft recorded yet another big feat for him as he was chosen by the New England Patriots in the first round, 27th overall. He was hailed as Sporting News’ First Team All-Pro, and The Associated Press’ Second Team All-Pro.

In 2015, McCourty won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots over the Seattle Seahawks, 28-24. This was after he made an interception on Ravens quarterback, Joe Flacco in the AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. As a proof of his tactical skill on the football field, McCourty was named co-captain for the fifth straight year. In December 2017, he was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl, his second time receiving the honour.

A few interesting fact about the McCourty twins is that they were born 27 minutes apart, with Devin being the older brother. Also, the twins started their football career at St. Joseph’s High School in Montvale where they started at cornerback in 2007.

Jason is equally an NFL star, though he’s yet to attain much success in his career as his brother. While Jason has never been to the playoffs, Devin is about to play his second Super Bowl. Nevertheless, the two brothers have remained close friends, helping and supporting each other in their career pursuit.

The McCourty twins are one of the 12 sets of identical twins in NFL history. They are also one of the three active set of twins in NFL. Others are Mike and Maurkice Pouncey; Brandon, and Brian Dixon.
