Rachel Weisz was born Rachel Hannah Weisz to Edith Ruth (nee Teich) and George Weisz, on the 7th of March 1970 in Westminster, London, England. Her father was a mechanical engineer of Hungarian origin while her mother was a former teacher and psychotherapist of Austrian origin. Both of her parents, who had Jewish ancestry, met in the United Kingdom after having fled their home countries in order to escape persecution from the Nazis.

From a very young age, Weisz was interested in the arts, which her parents encouraged her to pursue as she attended North London Collegiate School and then Benenden School. Weisz, at the young age of 14, made headlines across the entertainment world for declining an offer to appear alongside Richard Gere in King David (1985). Regardless of this, the young girl appeared to have the world at her feet, as her stock kept rising in the modeling and acting world. She went on to complete her A-levels at St Paul’s Girls School before enrolling to study English at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

In 1992, after graduating with second-class honors, upper division (2:1) Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Rachel Weisz made an appearance in the television film Advocates II, among other tv shows, before later getting to appear in a minor role in Death Machine (1994). By 1996, the young actress was able to land her first major roles, first as Dr. Lily Sinclair alongside and in Chain Reaction (1996), and then as Miranda Fox in Stealing Beauty (1996).

Weisz’s performances in these movies went a long way in helping her land roles in Swept from the Sea (1997), Going All the Way (1997), My Summer with Des (1998), Sunshine (1999), and The Mummy (1999), which gave her international fame.
