Donald Cerrone is an American mixed martial artist who fights in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Donald Cerrone Bio

He was born on March 29, 1983, in Columbus Ohio. Cerrone spent his childhood years in Denver Colorado where he had a hard time blending with fellow kids due to Attention Deficit Disorder. But he exhibited resilience even as he always got into fights with kids. At Air Academy High School where he attended, Cerrone started bull riding and went pro in the sports.

He switched to kickboxing at the age of 20 when he started training in the sport. Donald stood out in so many ways in kickboxing and Muay Thai and later went on to pursue a career in mixed martial arts. Cerrone trained with various MMA fighters at Greg Jackson’s Submission Fighting Gaidojutsu in New Mexico. He was signed to the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion and made his debut on the platform against Kenneth Alexander.

He won most of his fights in the promotion despite little controversy over his testing positive to hydrochlorothiazide, a banned diuretic in the beginning. In 2010 he was transferred alongside all WEC fighters to the UFC after a merger between WEC and UFC. At UFC 126, he won his fight against Paul Kelly and earned Fight of the night honors along with his opponent. He went on to win his next fight at UFC 131 against Vagner Rocha who replaced injured Mac Danzig.

His next win was with a three-time TKO against Charles Oliveira who replaced Paul Taylor at UFC on Versus 5. Cerrone’s win in the fight earned him the Knockout of Night honors. At UFC 137 in October 2011, he fought Dennis Siver and gloriously defeated him in the first round via submission. This win earned Cerrone Submission of the night honors.

The skilled fighter got his first UFC lightweight title shot in 2015 after he won eight fights in a row in only two years. Cerrone signed a new eight-fight contract with UFC in August 2016 and continued with his glorious wins. Towards UFC 213 in 2017, his fight with Robbie Lawler was postponed to UFC 214 after he had a staph infection and a pulled groin. Donald Cerrone later lost the fight by unanimous decision.

He won his fight against Yancy Medeiros via technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 126 held on February 18, 2018. This win saw Donald Cerrone clinch the UFC record for most finishes and most wins with 14 and 20 respectively. However, at UFC Fight Night 132, he lost his fight with Leon Edwards via unanimous decision.

In a total of 45 mixed martial arts fights, Cerrone won 33 times and lost 11 times. The professional mixed martial artist hopes to record more achievements in the very challenging sports.
