If you’re an anime lover who likes to stay in touch with the ravens of the moment, you’ve heard about or already seen the first season of Made in Abyss. Like most of the popular animes, it is also adapted from a manga book series. The dark fantasy anime also known as Meido in Abisu in Japanese, was written and illustrated by Akihito Tsukushi. The manga was first published on October 20, 2012, and quickly gained widespread attention. The interest generated by the manga series led to it being picked up by Kinema Citrus, an anime studio that adapted into the anime television series we know and love. Below is everything we know about Made In Abyss Season 2.
Made In Abyss Plot Summary
The first season of Made in Abyss hit the air on July 7, 2017, and it ran until September 29 when the season finale premiered. The first season had thirteen episodes and received favorable critical reviews as well as fervent praise from audiences all over the world. Since the conclusion of season one, many fans have been wondering if there is going to be a Made in Abyss Season 2, and when it is going to be released. We’ll get to that, for now, let’s discuss the storyline of the TV series.
Mystery and desire to unravel the unknown are two things that have always driven the human race, even when the consequence of that curiosity might be too much to bear. The same holds true for the inhabitants of the strange island in the sea of Beluska. Many centuries ago, humans stumbled upon the island which had a giant, inexplicable hole in its center. People began pouring in to see what the fuss was about and maybe discover the treasured rumored to be hidden in the hole. Eventually, these people began settling down on the island.
In truth, there are priceless treasures buried in the hole, but the few cave raiders who have dared to go into it and lived claim that there are also dangerous creatures in the pit. Some other claim that the pit is bottomless and endless, earning it the name the “Abyss”. After many generations, the island came to be known as Oosu.
It is in this settler town that the protagonist, a 12-year-old girl named Riko. She is an orphan because her parents, like that of many others, have been swallowed up by the Abyss. She and other guardianless children live in shelters and fend for themselves. Riko is hoping to obtain a White Whistle which will let her go deep into the Abyss to find her parents and the uncover the secrets that lay in this fathomless underground cave. She is aided in this adventure by a cyborg named Reg, who is her friend and confidant.
Made In Abyss Sequel Films
Before Made in Abyss Season 2, there have been two compilation movies made since the end of Made in Abyss Season 1. The movies are named Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight, and they were released in January to viewers in Japan, while U.S. audiences received it in March. Although the films were adapted to follow the anime, they are not original sequels, in that they do not continue from where the first season of Made in Abyss left off.
However, the studio has announced that it will be making an original movie sequel titled Dawn of the Deep Soul, which will be released in January 2020.
Made In Abyss Season 2 Release Date
Will Made in Abyss return for season two? This is a question that has been on everyone’s mind since Kinema Circus are taking their sweet time to give news on the fate of the second season. Made in Abyss picked up a number of awards for its first season including Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year Award, so it seems like good sense to make a follow-up season.
While many are confident that Made in Abyss season 2 is going to happen, the studio has not officially confirmed that they will be making it or when it is likely to premiere. None of the reliable anime media sources have issued any announcements on Made in Abyss season 2. However, if a new season is going to come, it’s probably not going to arrive sooner than 2020 because the studio is already working on a sequel movie for the time being.
Whether or not there will be a Made in Abyss season 2 remains to be seen, so fans can keep holding out for an official announcement from Kinema Circus studio that their favorite show will be returning for a second round.
