Very popular as Courtney Act, it was as Shane Gilberto Jenek that the Australian drag queen was born on 18 February 1982 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Shane was brought up by her parents, Gill Jenek and Annette Jenek alongside two other siblings. After she was through with her education from Sandgate District High School, she was off to Sydney where she hoped to pursue her career in the entertainment industry. 18 at the time, Gilberto went to audition for theater schools but instead of coming home with that, she was given a contract to last one year with Nickelodeon to work as a movie night host.

Looking at her career, Shane began in 2000, but it was in 2003 that she gained some serious attention when she attended the auditions of the Season 1 of Australian Idol. Failing to make it as Shane Janek, she decided to come back the next day but this time around, it was as her alter ego, Courtney Act. Not only was she successful, she reached the semi-finals of the competition.
The next year, her first single, Rub Me Wrong was released, kickstarting her career as a singer. With different singles to her name, she released an extended play, Kaleidoscope in 2015.
In 2010, Courtney decided to move to the States after she had conquered Australia which is quite small. It didn’t take her too long to make it as one of the best drag queens. In 2013, she competed alongside 13 drag queens in RuPaul’s Drag Race which was in its sixth season. She ended as a joined runner-up with Adore Delano while Bianca Del Rio was the winner.

In 2000 when she was planning for her drag debut, Shane and a friend were trying to come up with a name when she came up with Ginger Le’Bon because what she wanted was to become a redheaded and smoky-voiced nightclub singer. However, her friend suggested something cutesier and this resulted in Courtney Act which sounded more like “Caught in the Act” in her Australian accent.

According to Shane, after she moved to Sydney when she was 18, he realized that she was homosexual, and loved appearing like the opposite gender. However, she would later describe herself as polyamorous, genderfluid, and pansexual. She said she has had sexual and emotional experiences with both men and women in the past.
