Frankie Muniz, for a brief time, was known as one of Hollywood’s most bankable teenager. The American actor is best known for playing the title character in the Fox family sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle. Alongside being an actor, the man is also a drummer and an open wheel racer.

Francisco Muniz IV was born on the 5th of December and in the year 1985. His place of birth was in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey. Following his birth, he was named after his father, Francisco III. It is said that the man was a restaurateur and is of Puerto Rican, Italian and Irish descent. His mother was a nurse and an Italian/Irish descent.

When Frankie was four, his family moved to Knightdale, North Carolina where he spent his childhood through teenagehood. He has an elder sister named Cristina.

Frankie road to the arts started very early. Records hold that he was discovered when he was only eight during a local production of a Christmas Carol in Raleigh, North Carolina. Soon after his parents got divorced, he moved to Burbank, California with his mother. He appeared in a few commercials and eventually made his film debut in the television movie, To Dance With Olivia in 1997. In that same year, he starred in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation of What the Deaf Man Heard. Frank Muniz played a small role in the film, Lost & Found in 1999 and it paved the way for his breakout role on Malcolm in the Middle.

Malcolm in the Middle premiered on Fox on January 9, 2000, and was an instant hit. The premiere episode saw an audience of 23 million people and the second episode, 26 million. The success of the show earned Frank huge admiration and in addition to that, he got an Emmy nomination in 2001 and received The Hollywood Reporter Young Star Award for his work in the series. Over the course of his career thus far, Muniz has made guest appearances on a handful of other shows and has been rewarded with vast nominations for various awards.

In film, his first main role was as Willie Morris in 2000’s My Dog Skip. He had further commercial success with the 2002 release of Big Fat Liar, which starred him alongside fellow teen actress Amanda Bynes as two students seeking revenge on a sleazy movie producer played by the iconic Paul Giamatti. Muniz next commercially successful project was his title role in the film Agent Cody Banks and its sequel, Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London. He did, however, note that the movies were the point in his career where he decided it was time to make the transition from a child actor.

After Malcolm in the Middle finished its run on May 14, 2006, Muniz expressed a desire to leave traditional Hollywood film roles behind. He went ahead to take a break from acting in order to pursue a career in race car driving. Muniz long interest in car racing was never going away until he did something about it. Despite participating in a few celebrity races from 2001 to 2006, he had a never-ending interest to compete more competitively.

In 2007, he moved up to the more competitive Champ Car Atlantic Series where he competed in the entire season’s 12 races. His best finish in the season was ninth and he earned a total of 41 points over the course of the season and $17,000 in prize money.

Another interest of Muniz is music, this inspired him to join You Hang Up as a drummer. In 2012, he left the band and joined Kingsfoil, another band based in York, Pennsylvania. A few years later (in 2017), he announced that he is the manager for the York-based band Astro Lasso.

Muniz is also a sports fanatic. He is an avid supporter of Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Concussion and Memory Loss

On the 30th of November 2012, at the age of 26, Frankie Muniz was hospitalized after suffering from a transient ischemic attack, which can also be described as a mini-stroke. He suffered a second attack the following year on 25th November 2013. While he previously denied any lingering issues with his health, he revealed on Dancing with the Stars on October 9, 2017, that he suffered from a lot of memory loss and no longer has memories from his childhood acting days. The actor also disclosed that he has suffered at least nine concussion and 15 transient ischemic attacks.
