Fred Durst was born William Frederick Durst on August 20, 1970, in Gastonia, North Carolina. However, he was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He took interest in hip-hop, rock and breakdancing during his early teenage years. He joined the US Navy at some point in his life but eventually quit after 2 years to return to music. While working on his music, he gained employment as a landscaper and tattoo artist to support himself.

In 1994, Durst co-founded the music band “Limp Bizkit” alongside bassist Sam Rivers and a drummer John Otto. They were later joined by guitarist Wes Borland. They wrote and produced their own songs and also performed brilliant covers of several hit songs through which they were able to garner a massive following in the Jacksonville underground music scene. In 1997, the band got a recording contract with Flip Records, a subdivision of Interscope records and afterwards, they dropped their debut album Three Dollar Bill, Y’all. The band, however, achieved more success with their subsequent albums Significant Other (1999) and Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water (2000).

Just as his career with Limp Bizkit continued to thrive, Fred Durst worked with other artists as a songwriter and producer. He got to serve as the Senior Vice President of A&R at Interscope records and he equally delved into video directing. Limp Bizkit embarked on international tours and also headlined several sold-out concerts following the success of their 2nd and 3rd studio albums. The band released their 4th studio album Results May Vary in 2003 followed by an EP The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) in 2005. They also dropped a compilation album Greatest Hitz (2005) before entering an unofficial hiatus.

Fred Durst and his Limp Bizkit bandmates reunited in 2009 and they quickly resumed touring. They equally set to work on their fifth studio album Gold Cobra which was eventually released in June 2011. The album reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 though and received a mixed critical reception. The band left Flip Records shortly afterwards and by February 2012, they got signed to ‘s record label Cash Money Records. Limp Bizkit released a couple of singles under Cash Money but were not able to put out a full body of music during their stint with the label. The band left the label in October 2014 but has continued to work on their highly-anticipated 6th studio album Stampede of the Disco Elephants.
