Biography

Gerrit Alan Cole was born to Sharon and Mark Cole on the 8th of September, 1990 in Newport Beach, California. As a child, Cole played a variety of sports but had a very keen interest in baseball because his father was a huge fan of the sport. It further helped that Cole looked to be very good in the sport, which made him decide to solely focus on it in high school.

Cole went on to attend Orange Lutheran High School where in his sophomore year, he allowed no runs in 45 innings pitched for the school’s varsity baseball team. By his junior year, Cole began receiving national attention as he was able to throw a fastball that clocked 94 miles per hour (151 km/h). In his senior high school year, young Cole led his school to an 8-2 record on the back of 121 strikeouts in 75 innings. This earned him a selection to the USA Today All-USA high school baseball team but most importantly, it brought about interest from the New York Yankees who selected him in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft with the 28th overall pick.

While the Yankees were reportedly putting together a mouth-watering offer for Gerrit Cole to join them straight out of high school, he opted to accept a baseball scholarship to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After playing college baseball for UCLA, Cole entered the 2011 MLB Draft where he was selected with the first overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates. After signing, Cole pitched for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League (AFL) before he joined the Bradenton Marauders of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League for the 2012 season. Following a number of impressive games with the Marauders that earned him a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star selection, Cole was promoted to the Altoona Curve of the Class AA Eastern League. A few months later, he was again promoted by the Pirates to the Indianapolis Indians of the Class AAA International League.

In June 2013, Gerrit Cole eventually made his major league debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates who he played for until the January 2018 when he was traded to the Houston Astros.

Salary

In January 2018, Gerrit Cole signed a one-year contract that will see him be paid $6.75 million. The pitcher enjoyed almost a 100% increase in his salary since he was previously signed to a one-year deal that was worth $3.75 million, in January 2017.

Who is Gerrit Cole’s Wife (Amy Crawford)? Does He Have a Girlfriend?

Gerrit Cole does not have a girlfriend as he is married to Amy Crawford, the sister of another professional baseball player, . The couple met at UCLA where they were both college athletes. Amy played on the school’s softball team until she graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Social Science. The pair dated for a few years before Gerrit proposed to her in July 2015. More than a year later, in November 2016, the pair exchanged vows in front of close family and friends at Cole’s hometown of Newport Beach.

Since leaving college, Mrs. Cole, who was born on the 10th of January, 1989, in Pleasanton, California, has found work as a recruiting manager at Essex Mortgage and later as a career coach at Athletes to Careers.

Height and Weight

Major League Baseball has very few pitchers whose height are either 6 feet or under, as the record books show that the most successful pitchers in the history of the game always measure upwards of that figure. In the MLB today, the average height of pitchers is said to be 6 feet 2 inches. Gerrit Cole measures two inches more than that with a height of 6 feet 4 inches or 1.93 m. He further weighs about 109 kg or 240 pounds.
