Mol became a mother on September 10, 2007, when she and Kip welcomed their first child, a son they named Ptolemy John Williams. Almost four years later, she had their second child, a daughter they named Winter Morgan Williams.

Becoming a mother switched Mol’s priorities a little bit. She lived in New York City and was particular about the kind of jobs she took. She turned down every job that took required her to leave home and her city, as she prioritized her family above her career.

Gretchen Mol serves as the PMD Foundation’s spokesperson in the country. The foundation was created to fund research and promote awareness of Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD), a neurological disorder which affects children. She became involved with the foundation after she lost one of her cousins to Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
