Guillermo del Toro Gomez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on October 9, 1964. He was born into a Catholic family; his parents are Guadalupe and Federico del Toro Torres. While he was growing up, Guillermo was always decorating their household with weird objects that often made people afraid. He attended a film school named Centro de Investigacion y Estudios Cinematograficos and after his graduation, he started his own effects company named Necropia in the mid-80s. He also owns a production company named Tequila Gang.

Del Toro studied special effects and makeup with a makeup and special effects artist named Dick Smith after which he spent more than ten years as a special effects makeup artist. Guillermo has made a huge impact in the Mexican film industry as one of the founding members of Guadalajara Film Festival.

Career

The top-rated film director began his career in 1993 when he produced his first movie titled Cronos which was very successful and also earned him eight Ariel Awards from the Mexican Academy of Film.

Subsequently, in 1997, when Del Toro was given about $30 million budget by Miramax Films to shoot a film titled Mimic, an unfortunate incident happened. His father was kidnapped for more than two months and the upcoming film producer, however, paid twice the ransom requested by the kidnappers.

As a result of his father’s mishap, Del Toro had to relocate his whole family to America where he continued his directing career. He has directed a whole lot of movies including comics, historical fantasies and horror films.

Some of his projects include Mimic released in 1997, The Devil’s Backbone released in 2001, Blade II and Hellboy I & II, Pan’s Labyrinth in 2006, Pacific Rim in 2013, Crimson Peak in 2015, and The Shape of Water in 2017.

The house has a false window that was designed to appear as if a storm is happening outside, a shortcut to the melancholic fantasy worlds in which his movie takes place. Other features of the bleak house include a collection of 7,000 Blu-Ray and DVD movies and up to 13 different library rooms, each containing books from a particular subject area.
