Like the name suggests, the first installment titled 47 Meters Down is a movie based on the story two sisters: Lisa and Kate, played by and respectively, who went on a vacation trip to Mexico. With their minds set on creating long-lasting memories, they decide to go watch sharks from a diving cage, but the unexpected happens when they get into the water and the cord holding their cage breaks thus, sinking their cage to the bottom of the water (47 meters deep) which happens to be surrounded by sharks. They try their best to escape the bloodthirsty sharks in thrilling suspense filled fashion, but like most horror movies, there is rarely ever a happy ending.
In the same vein, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is based on the story of 4 teenage girls. Thirsty for adventure, they decide to go diving in an abandoned underwater city. Things quickly turn sour as they find out they are surrounded by sharks, hence, their struggle for survival.
Although we are not unfamiliar with news of shark attacks in real life, questions as to how true the story is will be less rampant, supposing it was explicitly or implicitly stated by producers of the movie. Nonetheless, from a scientific point of view, the movie contradicts several laws of physics with most physicians claiming that although it would be possible to survive that deep underwater, such a person must be highly trained. That being said, questions on the trueness of the story will continue to abound, but that shouldn’t take anything from the brilliant production of the movie.

Following the success of 47 Meters Down, it was announced on September 17, 2017, that a sequel titled “48 Meters Down” was being shot, but when the first trailer of the movie was released in August 2018, it was titled “47 Meters Down: The Last Chapter”. In December 2018, after due consultation, it was retitled 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.
2. The movie which was expected to be released on June 28, 2019, was postponed to August 16, 2019, as it clashed with the set release of The Conjuring Universe Franchise movie Annabelle Comes Home.
3. It was written by the famous Spanish writer Eusebi Ernest Riera Mari who works majorly in the UK film industry. Besides 47 Meters Down and its sequel, he has written other movies in the past such as The Plague and Albert.
4. The bulk of the movie was shot in the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom in an underwater studio in Basildon.
5. Since the release of its official trailer on YouTube by Entertainment Studios on August 3, 2019, the movie has garnered a total of 7.3 million views.
