The stern quiz expert was born as Anne Solway Hegerty on the 14th day of July 1958 in Westminster, London, England. She was born to English parents Shirley Hegerty and her husband, Kenneth Hegerty. Sadly, her dad Ken passed on in September 2017 after suffering from a brief illness. Anne was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and she is equally a member of the Catholic Writers Guild. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Edinburgh University during the ‘80s.

Career

At the early stages of her career, Anne worked as a journalist in London before she moved over to Manchester, England. She served as a writer as well as an editor for several UK publishing firms including the South Wales newspaper Argus. Upon arrival in Manchester, Anne continued working as an editor with one of the major publishing firms in Manchester. After a while, she was invited to be among the anchors of a new TV programme The Chase in 2010.

The Chase is an ITV network TV quiz show which involves contestants and chasers who attempt to stop them from winning the cash prize. Among the chasers are Anne Hegerty and Jenny Ryan as well as Shaun Wallace and , among others. Anne joined the show during the second edition in 2010 and has remained one of the prominent stars of the show until now. Along with Shaun and Mark, Anne also stars in the Australian version of The Chase which airs on Seven Network since 2015.
