Read on to find out more about the actress that is best known for appearing in the soap opera General Hospital (2002-2003) and the comedy-drama series Mind Games (2014).

Biography

Jaime Ray Newman was born to Marsha Jo and Raphael Newman on the 2nd of April, 1978, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. From a very young age, Newman began performing in theaters in and around the Detroit area. During that time, she got her elementary school education at the Jewish Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit before enrolling at the private Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

As a high school student, Newman was rated as one of the best actors among her peers. This was because, for three years in a row, she won the first position at the statewide dramatic competition, Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association. During the summer holidays, when she attended the arts education institute, Interlochen Center for the Arts, she further won the Corson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting.

Having made so much achievement in the field, Jaime Ray Newman, at the age of 16, founded Apollo Theatre Productions, where she served as both a producer and director. She went on to graduate from high school two years later and then enroll at Boston University College of Fine Arts where she spent two years before transferring to Northwestern University to study English and drama. At Northwestern, Newman founded the Ignition Festival for Women in the Arts through which she produced and acted in a number of plays. She further showed her passion for the arts by beginning and performing her own jazz quartet.

In 2000, after graduating from college, Newman moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. While being able to only land roles in short films, the young actress performed with her jazz quartet in clubs and bars all across the city to make ends meet. She eventually caught her big break when she was cast to play the role of Kristina Cassadine in the soap opera General Hospital (2002-2003) as the rest became history.

Family – Husband, Children

Jaime Ray Newman is married to Guy Nattiv, an Israeli-born writer and director who is trying to break into the American film industry having already made a name for himself in his home country. Nattiv’s first American feature film is the biographical drama Skin (2018) which won the Fipresci Critic’s Prize at its premiere at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival.

Newman and Nattiv had reportedly been in a long-distance relationship for several years before he was able to move to the United States in August 2013, about a year after the pair exchanged vows on the 2nd of April, 2012, in Tel Aviv, Isreal. His arrival in the US coincided with Newman’s expected delivery date as she was about nine months pregnant with their daughter.

Grief, however, soon befell the couple as it was found out at the maternity ward of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, that her baby had no heartbeat, and she lost her girl in a stillbirth. After getting through the ordeal, Newman went through years of IVF treatments but suffered miscarriages on four different occasions. This prompted Jaime Ray Newman to try surrogacy, through which the couple welcomed a daughter they named Alma Ness Newman Nattiv, on the 18th of September, 2018.
