Janina Gavankar is an actress and entertainer who is known for her work on several films and television shows including the hit LGBT show The L Word, the supernatural show True Blood and the comedy series – The League. She is also a professional pianist, vocalist, and orchestral percussionist.

Biography, Age, Ethnicity

Janina Zione Gavankar was born on the 29^th of November, 1980 in Joliet, Illinois. She is multiracial thanks to her mixed ethnicity; her father, Peter Ganesh Gavankar, is an Indian engineer from Mumbai who traveled to the United States for his masters, then met her mother – Shan-de-Mohra Gavankar, who is half Dutch and half Indian from Pune, Maharashtra and an immigrant from India. Janina has a sister named Sonya Gavankar who was former Miss District of Columbia in 1997 and is currently a famous journalist.

Before venturing into Hollywood, the young actress attended the University of Illinois in Chicago where she studied Theatre Performance. She finally made her debut in the industry in 2001 with the film Why Is God where she had a minor role as Mina.

Gavankar made her television debut in 2004 with the drama series Strong Medicine as Nurse Juni. Moving forward, she made more appearances in films and TV shows including Just Speak, My Boys, Stargate Atlantis, Grey’s Anatomy, Cup of My Blood, Arrow, Dollhouse, The Cleaner, The League, Think Like A Man Too, The Gates, Three Rivers, and The Vampire Diaries.

As Janina Gavankar’s career grew she appeared in several indie and blockbuster movies including Satellite of Love as Michelle and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf as Katia Amour. She also appeared in The Final Moments of Karl Brant as Detective Hostetler. Janina also had a cameo in the 2016 movie Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday.
