Jason Derulo is not only a fantastic singer, and dancer but also an avid songwriter who has been credited for writing songs for well-known artists like Danity, Birdman, Diddy, Sean Kingston, , Donnie Klang, and Cassie.

In 2009, he launched his solo career with his double-Platinum hit, ‘Whatcha Say,’ which samples the Imogen Heap song ‘Hide and Seek’. Ever since, he has recorded a total of eleven Platinum singles, which include Talk Dirty, Wiggie, In My Head, and has sold over 30 million copies.

Jason Derulo – Age 

Jason’s full name is Jason Joel Desrouleaux and he was born on September 21, 1989, in Miramar, Florida, by Haitian parents. Derulo is the youngest of the three children his parents have.

He showed so much interest in music right from an early age, and his parents gave him all the love and support he needed by enrolling him in a performing arts school. He also began developing his songwriting skills at quite an early age too.

Career

Jason Derulo is said to have written his first song at the age of eight. He became so good at writing songs that as a teenager, he began attracting some well-known singer like Birdman for whom he wrote the song “Bossy”, he also made a guest appearance on the song, showcasing his vocal abilities.

Apart from Birdman, he has also written songs for the likes of Sean Kingston, , Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Cassie, and Diddy. After attending The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and showcasing his talents in the arts both by singing, dancing, as well as acting in theatre productions like Ragtime and Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Jason thought it wise to launch his own solo career.

In 2006, he won the grand prize on the television show Showtime at the Apollo and was also spotted by music producer J.R. Rotem, who went on to sign him to his record label Beluga Heights Records and Warner Bros. Records.

In 2009, he released his debut single titled “Whatcha Say”, the song which was a sample of Imogen Heap’s song ‘Hide and Seek’, soon ranked #54 on the Billboard Hot 100 by the end of August and by November, it hit #1 both in the U.S and New Zealand. The single also sold over five million digital downloads and was certified by RIAA as triple Platinum.

Recording such huge success with his first single, Derulo began work on his debut album. By December 2009, he released a single from the album “In My Head”, which peaked  #63 the Billboard Hot 100, in its few weeks of release and would later peak at #5. His debut album was finally released in March 2010.

In 2012, Jason came on the America singing competition show American Idol to ask fans to help him finish the lyrics for a new song entitled “Undefeated”, which was a part of a partnership with American Idol and Coca-Cola. To this effect, fans were given the opportunity to submit their own lyrics, they were also given the chance to vote on which lyrics they liked the most.

That same year, he appeared on the first season of the Australian dance talent show Everybody Dance Now, as a dance master alongside Kelly Rowland. In 2013, he released another single entitled The Other Side, and this was followed by his third album Tattoos.

In 2015, he became a judge in the 12th season of the TV Dance Show So You Think You Can Dance, alongside Paula Abdul and Nigel Lythgoe. He would later that year release a single entitled “Want to Want Me”, from his fourth studio album, Everything Is 4. In July 2016, he released his greatest hits album, Platinum Hits, which featured 11 platinum certified singles, including Kiss the Sky.

In 2017, he released yet another single Swalla”, he featured Ty Dolla $ign and  he also revealed that his fifth studio album titled 777 would be coming out pretty soon. Jason says that inspired him and that his music influencers are , , and Elvis Presley.

The pop/R&B star is not gay and also not homophobic. In 2015, British all-girl group  released a new single entitled “Secret Love Song” which they performed live with Jason at the Jingle Bell Ball in December, it was very successful and soon had fans requesting for the video of the single.

It also got around that the video may feature different types of couples including same-sex couples. When the video was eventually dropped in early 2016, fans were disappointed that the video didn’t feature any couple at all, but rather it featured , , singing intercut with Jason Derulo who was seen dancing passionately in a room.

Then the rumor began flying around that Jason had refused to feature in the video if it had LGBT couples in it. Mixers came up to debunk such speculation as well as Derulo, who said he has nothing but love for the LGBT community.

Is He Married? Wife, Girlfriend, Parents

Derulo has never been married. However, he dated singer Jordin Sparks for three years before they called it quits in 2014. Sparks has since moved on with her life, she married her boyfriend, Dana Ishia and they welcomed a son, Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr., in May 2018.

After Sparks, Jason had been in a relationship with the mother of one, who he reportedly met in U.K in 2015, they, however, split after seven months. He also reportedly dated Carmen Ortega, who is five years his senior.

The established singer/songwriter is currently in a relationship with a mysterious girl, who he wouldn’t reveal her identity just yet.

Though born in Miramar, Florida, Jason’s parents – Joel and Jocelyne Desrouleaux are of Haitian descent. There is no detailed information about them online.
