Jerry Lawler’s Biography

Jerry O’Neil Lawler was born on November 29, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee. He began his career as a disc jockey and soon became known for it. When local wrestling promoter Aubrey Griffith approached him for publicity, Lawler made a deal with him to offer it for free if he would teach him the basics of wrestling. Aubrey agreed and in 1970, Lawler began his career as a wrestler.

He was trained by Jackie Fargo, and within the next 20 years, he would develop his skills fighting in various territories, especially the Memphis territory. Lawler was known for his feuds most notably with Andy Kaufman.

He joined the WWF (now WWE) in 1992 as an announcer and became known for his feuds. Subsequently, he wrestled with other promotions while keeping his commentating job. From 2001 to 2014, Lawler served as WWE’s color commentator while wrestling sporadically. He continues to make periodic appearances.

Net Worth

Jerry Lawler is a man of many talents. Commentating and wrestling aren’t all he is good at. Lawler is also a graphic designer and has done graphics for a number of companies. He designed the cover for Headlocked, a wrestling comic book. He has invested his WWE earnings into other businesses, he owns a restaurant in Memphis, located at 159 Beale Street.

With all that said, Jerry Lawler’s net worth is estimated to be somewhere between $7 million and $10 million.

Heart Attack

Jerry Lawler’s health has made headlines over the years. First was in 2012 when he suffered a heart attack. The cardiac arrest happened while he was live on-air during a September episode of RAW. Medical personnel rushed to the announce table where he sat to administer CPR. Lawler later underwent angioplasty and after some days in the hospital, he had fully recovered and was cleared to continue wrestling.

In April 2018, Lawler revealed via his Dinner With The King podcast that he had suffered a stroke on March 31st, 2018 while he and his girlfriend were making love. His girlfriend Lauryn McBride quickly rushed him to the ER where doctors discovered that he was having a brain hemorrhage. He was placed in the ICU and was unable to speak for two days. Like his previous encounter, Lawler recovered fully and returned to his wrestling duties.

Wife

The King has been married three times in his lifetime. His first marriage was to Kay in 1971. The marriage lasted for 7 years ending in a divorce in 1978. Their marriage produced two children Brian Christopher and Kevin. Though both of them have followed in their father’s footsteps to become professional wrestlers, Brian is the most successful.

Lawler’s next wife was Paula whom he married in 1982 and divorced in 1991. His third wife Stacy Lee Carter whom he married in the year 2000 would become the most popular of all his wives. They first met in 1989 at a charity softball game at Memphis’ Treadwell High School. Lawler at the time was obviously married to his second wife Paula. However, he later confessed to the media that he considered having an affair with Carter despite his marriage. The media believes that his affection for Carter is what brought his marriage to Paula to an end.

After Lawler and Paula ended things, Carter moved in with him. They dated for years before walking down the aisle in September 2000. Carter, as of when she met Lawler she was working as a bank teller, however, Lawler used his influence to get her better jobs. First was at a photography studio before helping her launch her own hair salon.

But it didn’t end there, Carter soon became a pro wrestling valet and would later join World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) as a wrestler under the moniker The Kat.

However, Lawler’s marriage to Carter was only short-lived. A year after officially getting married, they separated in 2001 and their divorce was finalized in 2003. After their separation, she quit the WWF and began working in real estate. Nine years after ending things with Lawler, Carter in July 2010, got engaged to and later married professional wrestler Nick Cvjetkovich.

Son – Brian Christopher

Lawler’s first son Brian Christopher was born on January 10, 1972, in Memphis, Tennessee. At the age of 16, he began his wrestling career as part of the tag team “The Twilight Zone” known for their trademark masks.

Almost a decade later, Brian joined his dad in the WWF, but it was kept a secret from fans that he was Lawler’s son until Paul Heyman ousted it on RAW. Christopher left the WWE in 2001 but has since made several returns, first in 2004, and then in 2011 and 2014. Between times when he was absent, he wrestled in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), as well as the Independent circuit. He did time for 30 days in 2009 following his arrest for disorderly conduct.

Jerry Lawler’s Girlfriend

After ending things with Carter, things were quiet from Lawler relationship-wise until when he began dating Lauryn McBride at least from 2011, going by the details on McBride’s Facebook page. She was born in 1989, making her a whopping 40 years younger than Lawler. She hails from Collierville, Tennessee.

McBride and Lawler have been through thick and thin together. She was by his side when he suffered a fatal heart attack in 2012. On Halloween day in 2015, the couple was involved in a ghastly motor accident that wrecked Lawler’s red sports car. After the accident, Lawler reported that McBride had shown signs of a concussion.

Like Lawler, McBride has had previous relationships and even has a son. Her son is named Peyton. In 2016, the couple made headlines when they were arraigned for domestic abuse, each accusing the other. The charges led to their indefinite suspension from the WWE. The couple was later reinstated and also found a way to work things out as they later got engaged.
