He attended Canyon High School in New Braunfels from where he graduated in 1997 and later proceeded to Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he played college golf and by age 22, he turned professional. The young golfer began playing on the Nationwide Tour on a full- time basis in 2003 and by 2004, he landed his first two wins as a professional at the BellSouth Panama Championship and the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. At the end of the 2004 season, Walker topped the charts as the Nationwide Tour’s leading money winner, earned Player of the Year honors alongside his first PGA Tour card.
Between 2005 and 2006, the golfer was not at the top of his game for reasons that range from injury, not performing enough to maintain his place on the money list to not being able to retain his playing rights. However, in 2007, he bounced back as he returned to the Nationwide Tour and earned his third win at the National Mining Association Pete Dye Classic which also placed him at 25th position on the Nationwide Tour’s money list and secured his PGA Tour card for the 2008 season. He continued to enjoy consistency in his winnings from then henceforth which made way for his 2016 remarkable win against landing him his first major PGA Championship Title.
His Battle With Lyme Disease
Sometime in April 2017, Walker made it known to the public that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Although sources have it that his illness started earlier than the diagnoses revealed and even his doctors did not expect him to catch such a rare ailment. The golfer was said to have had symptoms like mood swings, brain fog and constantly catching the flu which affected his performance on the golf course.
After his diagnosis, the athlete even revealed that it was not an easy task to find the right treatment for his ailment. His initial treatment was the traditional Doxycycline therapy but that did not seem to do much for him as it resulted to him sustaining second- degree burn from the sun when he ventured to play in the pitch. Currently, he is said to be on a treatment plan which involves pulsed tetracycline therapy in which he takes antibiotics two weeks off and two weeks on. Sources also say he seems to to be getting better with this new treatment and would be on his feet on the golf course in no distant time.
