She may not be the most popular actress in Hollywood but in recent years, Jocelyn Towne has begun to gain momentum. She has that face you know you’ve seen on TV but can’t quite place from where. Jocelyn Towne was born on August 8, 1976, in Nevada City, California to a screenwriter/film producer dad, Roger Towne (born 1940) whose credits include; The Natural (1984), In the Company of Spies (1999), The Recruit (2003), and The Natural.
Her uncle, Robert Towne that is her father’s older brother is even a more renowned screenwriter and filmmaker. He is credited with being a part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking. His original screenplay for Roman Polanski’s Chinatown (1974) was named one of the greatest screenplays ever written. It even won an Oscar and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Jocelyn’s uncle Robert Twone is also known for his collaboration with action star . He co-wrote and co-directed a couple of Mission Impossible films. His most recent endeavor is as the director of the romantic crime drama Ask the Dust (2006).
Her cousins (from Robert Towne) Chiara Towe and Kathrine Towne (the former spouse of ) are both actresses.
2. Jocelyn Towne had originally aspired to become a dancer
Jocelyn didn’t know right away that film was her calling. As a young girl, she developed a passion for dance and even hoped to go professional. As a result, she enrolled in New York’s Alvin Ailey. However, as fate would have it, Jocelyn later relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
3. Her father’s writing DNA rubbed off on her and she is not only an actress but a producer and director.
In addition to dancing, Jocelyn, influenced by her father developed an early interest in literature and began writing. “I was always interested in writing from a young age. I think that was definitely a huge influence from my dad because I always watched him writing in his office….” the actress told .
In order to hone her artistic skills, Towne enrolled at Santa Monica’s Crossroads School for the Arts & Sciences. She attended UC Berkeley from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature.

Jocelyn and Helberg dated for five years before becoming man and wife in 2007. Some time in their relationship, Helberg broke up with her to reunite with his ex-girlfriend whom he followed to Paris. However, in Paris, the ex would cheat on him with another man, forcing him to realize that Jocelyn was his true love after all. He returned to the US to propose to Jocelyn.
