Joe Mcfadden’s Bio
Joseph McFadden was born on the 9th of October, 1975 in Glasgow, Scotland to Irish immigrant parents. He grew up with three siblings – two older brothers and one younger sister, with him being the third child of the family. The young lad went on to attend Holyrood R.C. Secondary School, Glasgow. When he was twelve years old, his drama teacher recommended him to play a supporting role in one of the UK’s longest TV series Taggart. The show, which ran from 1983 to 2010, gave him the platform to make his professional debut.
Career
Later, he made an appearance in the British soap opera High Road, formally called Take the High Road and after this, Joe McFadden did not continue his professional career as a TV or film star, he chose instead to focus on his work as a theatre artist and writer. He wrote for the National Theatre of Scotland and made his debut in stage performances with the play Entertaining Mr Sloane in 1997 as Mr. Sloane.
He went on to appear in numerous theatre plays such as Rent (1998), 15 Seconds (2003), A Life in the Theatre (2004), Rainbow Kiss (2006), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2006-2007), The Missing (2011), Torch Song Trilogy (2012), and Haunting Julia (2012).
These plays were performed in famous places like Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Shaftesbury Theatre, Traverse Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Edinburgh Playhouse, National Theatre of Scotland, Tramway Arts Centre and the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
However, Joe McFadden did not give all his attention to stage plays, he also acted in some of Britain’s notable films and television shows including The Crow Road in 1996, Small Faces in 1996, Dad Savage in 1998, Sex, Chips & Rock n Roll in 1999, The Glass in 2001, Sparkhouse in 2002, The Trouble with Men and Women in 2003 and Alien Invasion in 2004.
In 1997, Joe McFadden was nominated for the Best Actor In A Television series at the BAFTA Scotland Award for his role as Prentice McHoan in The Crow.
After moving to London in 2007, a, he became known to millions of television viewers with his lead role in the police drama series Heartbeat. He portrayed the character of PC Joe Mason from 2007 to 2010. Joe McFadden also played Dr. Jack Marshland on BBC’s Cranford. He later appeared in Casualty in 2009 before winning the hearts of many as the leading character, Raffaello di Lucca in Holby City. He played Raffaello, the intelligent surgeon for three years (2014-2017) until his character was killed off.
McFadden is also a prolific voice-over artist. In 2002, he was the voice actor in the 2002 video game – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and The Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Game.
He is also an acclaimed dancer having won the British dance competition, Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. With his win, he became the first Scottish winner of the show as well as the oldest celebrity to win (winning at the age of 42).
