Having come a long way from Broadway to the TV, Milena Govich is gearing up towards becoming a renowned film director with a couple of credits to her name already. She has appeared in a number of films, however, she is best known for her roles on the small screen. She first turned heads with the recurring role of Candy on the CBS comedy-drama series Rescue Me. Govich rose to a higher level of prominence when creator Dick Wolf cast her as Det. Nina Cassady on Law & Order, making her the first female lead in the then-17-year-old series. Govich continues to rise with an increased interest in directing.

Milena Govich’s Bio

Milena Govich is a native of Norman, Oklahoma, who was born on the 29th of October, 1976. She attended her local Norman High School from where she graduated as her class valedictorian in 1994. She also graduated as the valedictorian from the University of Central Oklahoma with a double-degree in performance and pre-medical studies as well as a minor in violin and dance.

After her college graduation, Melina Govich relocated to New York in the late 90s to begin her acting career. With her experience in ballet and music, she started acting in musicals; her Broadway debut was in the musical revival of Cabaret which played from 1998 to 2004, with Govich joining in December 2000. She acted as the understudy of the lead role Sally Bowles, subsequently playing the lead.

Milena Govich played a role in the 2002 musical revival of The Boys from Syracuse. Her other theater performances include the musical Good Vibrations (2005), Thoroughly Modern Millie, and The Lyric Theatre’s Sweet Charity.

She began her screen work in 2004 starting with short films, however, TV would come to bring her more success. Her debut screen appearance was a guest role in a 2005 episode of Law & Order. Later in the same year, Govich landed the recurring role of Candy in Rescue Me which brought her national recognition. Her first TV main role came as A.D.A. Jessica Rossi in the NBC drama Conviction which premiered in 2006. She recently returned to the role in 2018 after only initially appearing in the 2006 season. She had originally left Conviction for one of the main roles in Law & Order.

Melina Govich has appeared in other TV shows such as; K-VillePsychThe DefendersBody of ProofMake It or Break ItThe Mentalist, and Finding Carter and in the 2015 faith-based film, Pass the Light.

Her net worth has been estimated at $4 million, a figure that is nowhere near the expected rise that she will soon run into considering her increasing success in directing.

 

Parents

Milena Govich has Dr. Bruce Michael Govich and Dr. Marilyn Green Govich as her parents. Unfortunately, her father Bruce passed away in 1998. No, her parents are not medical doctors, they got their “Dr” title from their respective Ph.D. in music as professors of music. Before his passing, Govich’s dad who is of Serbian descent tutored at the University of Oklahoma. For 22 years of his life, Bruce Govich sang the National Anthem at Oklahoma Sooner games.

Milena’s mother Marilyn currently tutors at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is of Scottish and English descent and has two other children Nikola Govich and  who is an Adjunct Instructor of Voice Music.

Husband

Milena Govic is married to David Cornue who like herself, is a multi-talented entertainer. He is a singer-songwriter, theater composer, playwright, and a film producer. The couple has worked together on a couple of projects. Cornue wrote the script to Milena’s directorial debut, the short film titled, Temporary (2017).

Thanks to the short film which Cornue also served as the executive producer of, Govich joined the eight women selected to join the Paul Feig-mentored Directing Workshop for Women by the renowned American Film Institute (AFI). He also produced and wrote the script of her second short film, Unspeakable (2018).

David Cornue has produced films like JailCity (2006), The Local (2008), and Prayer to a Vengeful God (2010). Govich and Cornue got married in 2003 and as of this writing share no kids together.

Measurements
