The native Shipibo Indians living there nursed him back to health by serving him a mix of healing herbal tea among other things. His condition improved significantly with its regular intake, in turn, his chronic physical discomfort and mental tiredness diminished to a considerable extent. Then, the realization dawned on him that the real Amazon treasure was those precious herbs.
Afterward, he met and became acquainted with a scientist, Dr. Nicole Maxwell, who has been researching the Amazon medicinal herbs for over forty years. Together, they founded the Amazon Herb Company, with its headquarters in Jupiter, Florida, in 1990. It also owns plantations in the Amazon region and deals in the production and marketing of herbs, and herbs based cosmetics and products. He then became known as Amazon John.
