Latinas have come to stay in Hollywood and they have only made it better with their talent, beauty, and accents which often leaves movie fans coming back for more. Besides her physical beauty, Judy Reyes is one Latina who knows her onion when it comes to portraying characters to perfection. The New York-born star has not held back one bit right from when her debut in 1992 to her major break in 2001 with the series Scrubs, she has only gotten better with age as fans will surely attest.

Still very much active in no small means, Judy’s expertise and physical charms often have fans wondering what goes on in her personal life off screen. You’ll find the answers to those questions and more here.

Judy Reyes: Biography

The actress, who is known for her excellent portrayal of Carla Espinosa in the ABC medical Sitcom Scrubs, was born on the 5th of November 1967 in the Bronx, New York. Her parents are Dominican immigrants to the US and have three other daughters. Growing up was somewhat idyllic for the actress who had her college education at the Hunter College in Manhattan.

Judy Reyes’ acting career kicked off properly after she graduated from college in the 1990s. As is often the case for a good number of actors, she started off on television by guest starring in series and shows which recorded good critical reviews. She had brief appearances in series like Law and Order, NYPD Blue and The Sopranos. She kept up the minor appearances until she was cast as nurse Carla Espinosa in Scrubs. The show was her major break to stardom especially because she had a major role that ran from 2001 to 2009.

While Scrubs lasted, she also took part in a good number of movies for television at the Lifetime Network. At the end of Scrubs, more series followed in lighter roles until her next big role in the movie Gun Hill Road, a drama set in her hometown of The Bronx. If her role as Carla made her known, her portrayal of a single mother in a troubled relationship with her estranged husband after his time in prison was surely the push she needed to become a household name.

Having proven herself in the industry, more roles followed in Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God… Be Back by Five (1998), Washington Heights (2002) and more. She kept up the flow with movies and in 2012, she got cast as a series regular in Marc Cherry’s comedy-drama Devious Maids as Zoila Diaz, a senior maid. However, the series was canceled in 2016.

Devious maids might have been canceled but its stint was enough time for directors to love Judy Reyes because two weeks later, she got a call to star in the TNT drama Claws. Most recently, she took up the role of Eva in Succession, an HBO series that premiered in 2018.

As mentioned earlier, Judy Reyes has Spanish roots; although she was born in New York, her parents are originally from the Dominican Republic but had moved to the Bronx which is where they had Judy and her sisters. Therefore, the actress is as Latina as they come; this is supported by the fact that some time ago, she won The American Latino Media Arts Award (ALMA), formerly known as NCLR Bravo Award – it is an award for the recognition of the best American Latino contributions to music, television, and film.

Husband and Kids

The beautiful actress has a colorful relationship history which is only to be expected, seeing as she has incredibly good genes and an excellent outlook. Back in 1997, Judy Reyes, who was 30 at the time, got married for the first time to a certain Edwin M. Figueroa who she had dated for a while. The marriage lasted for 11 years but ended in divorce in 2008 without any kids between them.

Barely a few months after the divorce was finalized, the curvy actress threw herself right back into the dating game and struck up a relationship with writer and director, George Valencia. A year later in 2009, the couple welcomed a daughter together and named her Lelia Rey Valencia.

The love between Judy and George has been going strong for over a decade now but they seem really reluctant about making their union official in marriage.

Family – Twin

Coming from roots that cherish family and close ties, Judy Reyes did not stray too far. She has a very close-knit relationship with her immediate family and her parents. She has three sisters two of which are equally actresses like herself and they are Fidias Reyes – the oldest, a younger sister whose name has not been revealed and a fraternal twin sister who goes by the name Joselin Reyes.

Joseline may not be as well established in the industry as her sister, but she has recorded several interesting appearances in shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999), and movies like Messengers (2004) and Instant Family (2018).

Net Worth

Through the many hats she wears as an actor and a producer among other endeavors, Judy Reyes has been raking in a tidy sum which is only to be expected especially with her series regular stint in Scrubs. From all her work and as one of the founding members of Labyrinth Theatre Company in Manhattan, the actress has an estimated net worth pegged at $6 million.
