However, outside of her acting credits, Sage’s love life has been one of the fascinating things about her, particularly her relationship with TV superstar and comedian, Seth MacFarlane.

During her time on The Orville, the show that raised Halston Sage’s mainstream profile, her character, Alara Kitan, was not mainly known for her romantic escapades. In real life, however, Halston has had quite the relationship history.

So far, Halston Sage’s love life is believed to have involved at least three men, former co-star, Seth MacFarlane, famous singer Charlie Puth, and James Maslow.

James Maslow (2011 – 2013)

At age 17, Halston Sage reportedly began dating fellow actor and musician, James Maslow. James is known for his work on the Nickelodeon show, Big Time Rush, along with Sequestered, The Big Stage, and the band, Big Time Rush.

The relationship reportedly began in January 2011, and James publicly confirmed it in April 2012. Sadly, their relationship came to an end a little over a year – in December 2013. The reason for the breakup remains unknown, but the former couple is believed to maintain an amicable relationship post-breakup.

Seth MacFarlane (2017 – 2018)

Between 2013 and 2017, Halston Sage’s love life was shrouded in secrecy until September 2017 when news broke that she was in a relationship with the American actor/comedian and writer, Seth MacFarlane. They were seen a couple of times together, acting all loved up and having fun.

For fans of the couple, particularly of Halston Sage, many hoped her relationship with the comedian would be the culminating point of her love life. Sadly, it was not meant to be. After about a year of being together, Sage and MacFarlane parted ways.

Like her first relationship, why it came to an end remains unknown, but some have suggested their 20-year age difference to be a reason.

Charlie Puth (2018 – 2019)

The third relationship in Halston Sage’s exciting love life is with acclaimed singer/songwriter, Charlie Puth. The two reportedly began dating in the fall of 2018, and Sage confirmed it in an Instagram post on the 22nd of September 2018.

Unfortunately, the joy that met the confirmation of their relationship did not last. The exact time their relationship ended is unknown. But, it was confirmed in February 2019 when Charlie Puth made known his relationship with her in a couple of Instagram and Twitter posts.

Just like her first two relationships, the reason for the breakup remains unknown to the public, although many have suggested it was nothing more than a fall fling.

With no known current relationship, Halston Sage is currently believed to be a single woman.

Rumours and Hookups

Outside of the men that have graced Halston Sage’s love life as boyfriends, she has also been involved with a couple of other personalities in flings and reported hookups. At the beginning of the year 2014, rumour had it that Sage was involved with actor Chord Overstreet. Well, rumour also claimed that the duo broke up in April of the same year. The ‘relationship’ was never confirmed by Chord nor Sage.

Also, in April 2014, it was said that Halston had hooked up with Zac Efron. This didn’t last long either as it was supposedly called off the next month, May 2014.

Why She Left The Orville

Although some have suggested she left the show because of her relationship with the showrunner Seth MacFarlane came to an end; it would appear it had nothing to do with her departure from the show.

In her role as Alara Kitan, a Xelayan who was the muscle of the team, Halston Sage was one of the beloved characters on The Orville in one and a half seasons of the show. Her departure came as a result of writing decisions by the writers of the show.

According to an official statement made by Halston, the decision was considered best for the show at the time. While fans might miss her on The Orville, they can watch her on another Fox show, Prodigal Son, where she plays Ainsley Whitley.
