That was her birth name when she was born on the 3rd of December, 1960 on an army base in North Carolina, specifically Fort Bragg, to parents Peter Moore Smith and Anne Smith. Her Scottish roots, which manifests in her iconic red hair, is from her mother who is of Scottish descent.

Julianne Moore’s acting style has been described as one that consistently connects to the human condition and Moore herself has acknowledged her preference for roles that show human vulnerability. Her preference might be a result of her experience as a child, traveling across the country, experiencing the lives of different people, a benefit of her father’s work as a military judge.
