When a film becomes so successful to the point of breaking box office records, chances are that there would be a sequel, even if the story was seemingly concluded. This has almost become the norm and that is the case with the American fantasy adventure comedy film Jumanji. Upon its release in 2017, Jumanji, which was released as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, hit the $1 billion mark at the global box office from a production budget between $90 million and $150 million, with those numbers, it became the 5th highest-grossing film of the year. In early 2018, it became official that a sequel which at the time was referred to as Jumanji 2 was in the works. Here are facts about the cast and everything we know so far about the sequel.
Who Are The Cast of Jumanji 2
Pretty much every major star in the first Jumanji movie will return for the sequel, of course, with the addition of a few fresh faces. Jumanji basically tells the story of what happens when a group of teenage friends enters into the most dangerous video game in the world where they get changed to avatars which are portrayed by different people.
In the first Jumanji movie, was the video game character named Dr. Smolder Bravestone – the avatar of Spencer Gilpin, a geek from Brantford High School who is played by Alex Wolff. portrayed Franklin “Mouse” Finbar the video game avatar of Anthony “Fridge” Johnson (portrayed by Ser’Darius Blain), a jock from the same high school as Spencer. When Bethany Walker (portrayed by Madison Iseman) – a pretty and popular yet self-centered high school girl gets into the game, she is changed into the avatar Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, a cartographer, cryptographer, archaeologist, and paleontologist who is portrayed by Jack Black.
While all of the above-mentioned stars would return as both the same video game characters and the real-life characters, there is a change in who the real-life characters become when they enter into the game. For example, Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon who was the avatar of Bethany in the first film would now be the avatar of Fridge.
Also returning as the game world characters are , , as well as Rhys Darby who would portray the characters of Ruby Roundhouse, Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough and Nigel Billingsley respectively. Jumanji 2 would include a new in-game avatar whose name is yet unrevealed and would be portrayed by a certain . You would remember her from Crazy Rich Asians or Oceans 8 where she portrayed the loudmouthed street hustler and pickpocket, Constance. Awkwafina seems to be landing a role in every major blockbuster and her inclusion in Jumanji 2 provides proof of this.
Morgan Turner and Colin Hanks would reprise their real-world characters of Martha Kaply and Alex Vreeke respectively. There are also a number of new faces who would play real-world characters. They include; Taxi alum, who would portray the role of Eddie Gilpin, Spencer’s grandfather; Lethal Weapon alum, who would portray Milo Walker, Eddie’s (Spencer’s grandfather) eccentric friend. Other new faces with real-world roles include Italian-American actor, Massi Furlan, who would portray Renaldo, Dominican film actress Dania Ramirez whose role is yet unrevealed and model and Lifetime staple, Ashley Scott who would portray as Ashley.
Trailer
The first look at Jumanji 2 came on the first of July 2019. Until the release of the trailer, the sequel was referred to as Jumanji 2, but with the trailer came the name reveal of the sequel to be Jumanji: The Next Level. The trailer which was quite hilarious was what revealed the real-character/in-game avatar swap already discussed above.
Filming Location And Everything We Know So Far
Another major change in the new Jumanji movie is the filming location. While the first one was filmed primarily at the Kualoa Ranch nature reserve in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jumanji 2, though would also be partly filmed in Hawaii, has its major filming locations in unstated places in Atlanta, New Mexico, and Calgary.
The filming for the sequel began in January 2019 and was wrapped up by May 2019.
