Karla Susana Olivares Souza was born on the 11^th of December 1985, in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. The actress holds dual citizenship from Mexico and America and is of Chilean and Mexican descent, She has two siblings a brother – Jeronimo Souza and a sister – Monica Souza. Karla is a Polyglot who speaks French, English, and Spanish fluently.

Karla Souza had a rich and expansive education in acting; she first attended a school, Centro de Education, run by the media company – Televista, to study acting. From there she moved to France to attend another school to further her education in acting, while in France she became a member of a theatre company, touring France with them. During this time she attempted to become part of a reality show, an opportunity she said goodbye to after the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, United Kingdom, requested she come study acting at their school. In 2008, Souza graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in acting and the CCP award which is given to the actress who shows the most promise. Karla achieved all of this by the age of 22. After which, all roads led to her birthplace, Mexico, where her career as a television and movie actress began.

Acting Career

The period she spent in Mexico and Europe pursuing her education was also used to build a career in stage acting. Upon her return to Mexico in 2009, she debuted in television with the sitcom Verano do amor (2009) where Karla Souza played the role of Dana Villalba Duarte. Two years after that she had a major role in the romantic comedy From Prada to Nada (2011). From then on, she appeared in many more shows and movies including Nosotros los Nobles (2013), El Crimen del Cacaro Gumaro (2014) and the TV show Persons Unknown (2010).

In a bid to build her career in films and television shows in Hollywood, she decided to move to Los Angeles in 2014, in the same year she was cast as Laurel Castillo in the highly acclaimed TV show, How to Get Away with Murder.

In the wake of the #metoo movement that swept Hollywood in 2018, Karla Souza stated on the Carmen Aristegui show that at the age of 22, she had been raped by the director of one of the shows she was working on at the time. However, she refused to disclose the name of the said director.
