Kris Aquino is a Filipino-born television personality, actress, businesswoman and activist. This highly talented celebrity could be said to have spent virtually all her life in the limelight. She gained prominence at a pretty young age being the child of two top political figures in the Philippine and as a result of this, she got featured on the covers of The New York Times and Time Magazine at the age of 7.
Over the years, Aquino has come to be better known for her talents rather than her privileged background. As an actress, she has starred in some of the biggest Filipino movies of the 2000s and for her exploits in TV hosting, she has earned the nickname “Queen of Talk in Philippine show business”.

She was born Kristina Bernadette Cojuangco Aquino on February 14, 1971, in Quezon City, Philippines. Her parents were both politicians during their lifetime. Growing up, her father was often arrested and jailed and as a result, she was mainly raised by her mother alongside her siblings. When she was 9 years old, her family went on exile to the US. Upon the family’s return to the Philipines, Aquino completed her elementary school education at the Poveda Learning Center in Mandaluyong, in Metro Manila. She had her high school education at the Colegio San Agustin-Makati in Makati City and for college, she attended the Ateneo de Manila University where she bagged a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.
Showbiz Career
Kris Aquino began her television career in 1986 appearing on the TV show See True after which she became a co-host on another show GMA Supershow (1986-92). She marked her acting debut in the comedy film Pido Dida: Sabay Tayo (1990) which was a huge commercial success. This was followed by other commercially successful film credits which cemented her status as the “box-office Queen”. She returned to television in 1996 with the launch of her eponymous talk show The Kris Aquino Show which lasted for just one season.
Also in 1996, she launched another talk show Today with Kris Aquino which proved to be more successful than the first. The show lasted from 1996 to 2001 and through it, Aquino earned the title “Philippines’ Queen of Talk.” Between 2001 and 2002, she co-anchored the talk show Morning Girls with Kris and Korina alongside journalist Korina Sanchez. Aquino also headlined several other talk shows including Kris and Tell (2001), Morning Girls (2002-04) Good Morning, Kris (2004) and Boy & Kris (2007-09). She also served as the host of the weekly talk show The Buzz (2000-2010).
Kris Aquino’s hosting duties were not restricted to talk shows as she also hosted game shows like Pilipinas, Game KNB? (2001-2007), Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal (2006-09) and Wheel of Fortune (2008). In 2010, she got signed as a judge on the talent competition Pilipinas Got Talent, a role she held until 2013. The talented TV host equally floated another talk show Kris TV in 2011 and it which lasted till 2016 when she embarked on a hiatus.
While her television career grew in leaps and bounds, this multitalented star also recorded several notable film credits as the years rolled by and they include Shake, Rattle & Roll III (1991), Vizconde Massacre (1993), Mano Po (2002), Mano Po 2: My Home (2003), Feng Shui (2004), Sukob (2006), Dalaw (2010), Segunda Mano (2011), Feng Shui 2 (2014) and Etiquette for Mistresses (2015). Aquino equally made a cameo appearance in the Hollywood box-office hit Crazy Rich Asians (2018), a film adaptation of a 2013 novel of the same name.

Kris Aquino’s family consists of some of the most prominent politicians in the history of the Philipines. Her mother Corazon Aquino was the 11th President of the Philippines and the first woman to hold that office. Her father Benigno Aquino Jr. was also a politician and he served in various capacities. He served as a mayor, a vice governor, a governor, a presidential adviser and finally as a senator. Sadly, Aquino’s father was murdered on August 21, 1983, at the Manila International Airport which has since been renamed after him.
The TV star is the youngest of her parents’ 5 children and she has 4 siblings; 3 sisters and a brother. Her sisters are Maria Elena “Ballsy” Aquino, Aurora Corazon “Pinky” Aquino and Victoria Elisa “Viel” Aquino-Dee. Her only brother Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III is a politician just like their parents. He served as the 15th President of the Philippines between 2010 and 2016.
