Laura Haddock Bio

Laura Jane Haddock was born on 21 August 1985, in Enfield, London. Raised in Harpenden, Hertfordshire by her parents (her mum is a reflexologist and dad, a corporate financier), young Laura fell in love with theater and film.

As a kid, Laura changed her mind many times about her future career and considered becoming many things including a policewoman.

However, her dad was able to see that she actually didn’t want to become those things but act them instead. Thanks to her dad, Laura was able to make up her mind about pursuing a career in acting.

After graduating from St George’s School at the age of 17, she proceeded to Arts Educational School in Chiswick, London. But success in the film industry wasn’t overnight for Laura. In her early years after graduating from drama school, she was rejected many times but remained undeterred.

And then came 2007 and Haddock began to get small parts in TV shows and TV films including episodes in My Family, Comedy Showcase, The Colour of Magic, and  Marple: A Pocket Full of Rye.

In 2008 she got to play her first lead role in a TV show in Honest. She scored another lead role in ITV1’s Monday Monday, playing the role of Natasha.

Laura didn’t score any feature film role until 2011, but when she finally did in The Inbetweeners Movie, it proved to be worth the wait. The comedy film grossed £64.8 million against a budget of £3.5 million. The role earned her an Empire Awards nomination for Best Female Newcomer. It was a big break for her career as more gigs came calling.

Following a slew of appearances in TV shows, Haddock got another important role in Da Vinci’s Demons, playing the role of Lucrezia Donati, the mistress of Lorenzo de’ Medici and lover of Leonardo da Vinci. Her role lasted until the end of the show in 2015.

For her role in Guardians of Galaxy, she won the first ward of her career – Detroit Film Critics Society and Nevada Film Critics Society awards for Best Ensemble Cast.

She played Viviane Wembly in Transformers: The Last Knight (2017).

Husband, Relationship with Sam Claflin

Laura met fellow English actor Sam Claflin when they both auditioned for roles in My Week with Marilyn (2011). Though they were both unsuccessful for the roles they auditioned for, we can bet they were thankful that the film brought them together.

Laura has once described meeting Sam as love at first sight and the feeling was mutual. She once narrated to the media how upon meeting her, Sam ran to his agent and gushed: “I’ve just met the girl I want to marry. I love this girl like, I love her. She’s perfect.”‘

Four months after their initial meeting, Sam tracked her down on Facebook and soon, they began dating. After two years of a rock solid relationship, they got married on July 30, 2013.

At The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 London premiere on November 5th, 2015, (if you’ve been hiding under the rock, Sam is a star of the film) it was revealed that Laura and Sam were expecting their first baby. The couple welcomed son Pip, on 10 December 2015.

In late January 2018, Sam announced to Geri Horner of Radio 2 that his wife Laura had given birth to their second child, a daughter. However, he declined to reveal the name of their baby.

The parents have purposefully shied away from revealing too much information about their kids including posting photos of them online. The reason, Sam explained to Red Magazine in 2016, was in a bid not to force them into a world they might not want to get involved with.

“He might want to be a banker and change his surname for all I know,” Sam told the magazine of his son.

In addition to the Hunger Games where he played Finnick Odair, Laura Haddock’s husband Sam Claflin is also known for his roles as Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Will Traynor in Me Before You.
